Guides on How to Run D1 & D2 on Windows XP

Is there a post or guide that I just can't seem to find that has detailed intructions on how to get Descent 1 and Descent 2 (or d1x or d2x whatever the mod is called.. thats what is confusing) running on Windows XP?

The D1 or D2 installer on the CDs should install the program no worries.
You just need to place the CD into the master CD/DVD-ROM drive.

After that.....
Use D2X-XL or DXX-Rebirth to run either version of Descent you prefer.

As far as I know/ remember. You just unpack Rebirth into the Descent main directory and run the Rebirth exe file.

With D2X-XL, you unpack the program and then need to move the D1/ D2 data files to a specific folder setup for D2X-XL to run properly.

Copy the install directory for each and rename it DX1 or DX2 whatever (so you keep a an original unaltered folder on your hard drive)

Then install whatever DXX version in your DXX folder

I went to install D2, put in the disc, click install, goes to a DOS screen, then closes out with now error or explanation. Trying the Descentforum installation

Followed direction. Got D2 installed fine. Now, I have D2 Vertigo.. Any idea how to install that? Same thing happens

I think I used windows 98 compatibility mode way back to install a clean copy of D2...

I got D2 installed.. it's just vertigo that's not working
