LCD monitor - analog v. DVI

Post by dissent »

I picked up an LG LCD monitor a few months back. It only came with an analog cable, so I used that and it seems fine. Should I bother to get a DVI cable for it? What would it do any better?
Video card has ports for both.

DVI will get you a crisper picture (no D/A - A/D conversion). Make sure you get a DVI-D cable, some monitors have a hardware preference for the A part in DVI-I..

The difference it makes won't necessarily be \"night and day\", but it will be noticeable.

Right now, I'm having to use analog VGA because of my KVM switch, and wishing I could use DVI. :P

You can avoid the auto-adjust step with DVI too.

I don’t know about that Monitor, but the TV I use with my Media Center wont sleep with the DVI input only the VGA..so you might want to check into that.

As far as the picture…I see very little difference between the two. So unless you are very picky you can save your money

I have no issues with sleep mode on a DVI cable also it's a 10' version of a DVI

I seem to have a better workout dodging your stupidity than attempting to grasp the weight of your intelligence.

thanks all. I got a freebie cable recently; I may swap it in to see if there's any difference.

You most likely won't see a difference (unless the VGA cable you have been using was really that horrible). But you won't have to ever auto adjust the picture onto the screen again, which is plenty of reason to use the DVI cable.
