they shouldn't be able to do it. You can't legally trademark common phrases

I trademarked the word bubblegum. I'm currently a trillionaire.

Yes, you may still "own" at your own discretion.

You mean like the way Paris Hilton shouldn't have been able to trademark the phrase "That's hot"? Yeah, there are too many greedy basts in this world that would sell their soul for money!

That still does not answer how they would profit from this. Certainly their business plan is not to sue everyone who uses it. And I can't picture anyone willing to pay royalties to use it. If they tried the word would disappear as quickly as it came.

By jove you're right! I read that she had applied for it in 2005, and patent lawyers didn't think she's get it. But just now i read:
"Hilton owns the trademark "That's hot," which was registered on Feb. 13, 2007.".

Trump also tried to trademark "You're Fired!", but i've been unable to confirm whether he got it.

Wtf does \"pwn\" mean anyways? Is that what the 10 years olds playing Halo have been saying? They actually pronounce the p...which I'm guessing you're not supposed to?

Also, do you adults still use that word? If so, end your own life please.

\"pwn\" is a typo of \"own\" - and thus is a reference to domination. I \"dominated\" you in that game. Thus probably linked to terms such as \"your ass is mine\" that contain concepts of ownership relationship structures (even master and slave) and thus psychological power-play.

Common typos are important to internet culture, as they carry the added nuanced meanings of being typed fast. It's almost like an accent, an internet accent. It shows you've been here a while when you type so fast ;)

But \"o\" is right next to \"p\". And it's the same length...so how can the speed at which you type contribute to this one?

Is this in the same idea as that stupid \"All your base are belong to us\" or whatever?

On another forum I visit, 'pwn' was made a swear-filterable word. Not because of this trademark or anything, just because it deserved to be.

Pwn is meant to distinguish the 1337's from the noobs (both nooblets and even the nooblars). While the noobs would use the more common term \"own,\" those who are experienced gamers (the 1337's) would use the term used more by the 1337's called \"pwn.\"

Also, pwners sounds better than owners due to owning belonging also to common world activities.

I just think if it becomes even a little commercialized the 1337'ers and noobs as well will drop it like a hot potatoe... making it worthless.
