Olympics a chant away
Seems there is a call (by whom is not yet clear...at least to me)to boycott the Olympics in China due to Chinas rough handed treatment of the peace loving Tibetans. The head of the IOC says no to a boycott because, well...it just wouldn't be fair to the athletes. I guess the 30 or so dead in Tibet by the Chi-com's matter not. So for you expounders of human rights, would it be reasonable to use the Olympic games to lift a downtrodden country from the cloying embrace of their presumptive rulers military arms? Or should we let the games go on?

I agree with Gooberman. Economically and politically the U.S. cannot afford to insult China. Boycotting the USSR was no big deal. There was no economic fall out. If you think the U.S. dollar is under pressure now just PO the Chinese enough to reduce their purchase of U.S. debt.
Let the Tibetans use the international attention that China is getting to attract the world's notably short attention span on their problems. Boycotting might actually hurt them by reducing the U.S. coverage once they are not participating.
All this applies to Darfur too.

Eh ... Boycotting the Olympics usually just does not help in the ways some people think.
Here is a list of some instances of the Olympics getting boycotted. http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/cold.war/ep ... index.html
