E&C - avoid religion and politics discussions. NO

Post by roid »

Ethics and Commentary
For discussion of life's issues: current events, social trends and personal opinions - profound to mundane. NOTE: please review the DBB Policies re. appropriate topics

and under DBB policies is this:

DBB Policies:

5 - Avoid religion and politics discussions.

These \"sensitive\" conversations most always seem to end in a flame war. Topics of this nature won't be tolerated on the DBB. We realize that we all are protected by the 1st Admendment of the US Constitution, but let's remember:

This is a PRIVATE BB not PUBLIC this entiltitles the DBB and it's staff to decide what is acceptable.

This is not a policy, as hasn't been for a loooong time. If you can't change that - at least get rid of the link to DBB policies in the E&C description.

No-one is suggesting it shouldn't be allowed. No-one.

We're just too lazy or incompetent to change the policy on paper. It's so old, just fix it guys it's embarasing, this link is on the MAIN PAGE as part of the E&C description as if it's all important and you'll get your wrist slapped if you disobey.

i noticed the link to the DBB policies in the E&C description on the DBB main page - was reminded of the discussion we had a few months back - and found myself suddenly appalled that the policies i previously laughed off as archaic were GIVEN A HIGHLY VISIBLE PROMINENT LINK RIGHT IN THE E&C FORUM'S DESCRIPTION ON THE MAIN PAGE.
It's no wonder Aggressor Prime thought religious talk was against the rules.

Read the main page as a newcommer - could you think any differently?

If I have understood the history of the DBB, it was Lothar who was primarily responsible for changing the way the E&C was moderated so as to allow more serious discussions.

And, since I have enjoyed and learned from them, I'd like to say THANK YOU!

Roid is right, it seems that the DBB policy should be corrected.

I know I am in the minority on this, but I think if so many people want to discuss religion and politics they should take it to boards that are about those topics or at the least the DBB should could create forums for there use The E&C is just over used for those two subjects and those of us with little interest in them miss anything else that gets posted there among them.

Perhaps this entire topic belongs in the E&C area.

And you see how those prescriptions are followed, right? No harm, no foul. I think the rules are fine and they leave an "out" for moderation. If any political or religious discussion descends into a flame war, it has the right to be closed with implicit explanation.
