Converting CD's and LP's

Post by Tunnelcat »

Anybody know of a really reliable and simple piece of hardware that will allow you to import or convert, using my computer, all my old LP records and CD's into the MP3 format? My stereo equipment is starting to get creaky and I want to transfer them over to MP3 for future enjoyment. :?

You need:
  • Audio connection from your record player to your computer's Line In jack.
  • A program like WaveLab or REAPER or something like them.
  • CD burner (for making Audio CDs, bet you already have this) for making 'hard copies' of your hard work.
  • Patience

I've seen these little USB converter boxes that come with some software. Anybody try one of those?

My problem is that my laptop's sound card doesn't have a line-in port, which is the computer I'd like to use here, only a microphone input, so the sound it records is WAY too attenuated with the current input device I own.

Oh, I know about them. I stay very far away.

I did see a USB device at FRY's, but it was $110 for a little box with some unknown software included. :?
