Ireland rejects EU reform treaty

Post by Cuda68 »

I tried to read up on this, but was unable to find the reason or reasons for the rejection. Are there any people from Ireland who would be willing to share there views on this?

The Republic of Ireland is the only country in the EU where the public gets to vote on the big EU issues for its country. Most people voted 'no' as they thought it would restrict the voice of their country in the EU. It would, but only marginally, and I believe that most people voted 'no' just because they didn't understand the treaty (called the Lisbon Treaty) properly.

Edit: honestly, you could've put more effort into your searches.

Wiki is not a fact document, its an Opinion page

That page not only has the story of the vote but links to all the relevant BBC news stories.
Maybe you have your Google page setup limited to N.America.

Normally, I'd make some kind of argument about all news stories being subjective on some level... but that is one poorly written Wiki entry. No wonder it's up for deletion.
