www.dailymail.co.ukTwo boys were punished this week for refusing to kneel on prayer mats and worship Allah during a class demonstration on Islam, the Daily Mail reported.
Irate parents said a religious education teacher at the Alsager High School in England told student to wear Muslim headgear during a lesson on Tuesday. \"But if Muslims were asked to go to church on Sunday and take Holy Communion, there would be war,\" the grandfather of one of the students said.
The two boys belong to a class that includes 11- to 12-year-olds, and after their refusal to participate they were given detention, the story says.
Another parent, Karen Williams, told the Mail: \"Not only was it forced upon them, my daughter was told off for not doing it right. They'd never done it before and they were supposed to do it in another language.\"
Deputy Headmaster Keith Plant said the teacher has given her version of the incident but he declined to elaborate.
According to a statement from the Cheshire County Council on behalf of the school: \"Educating children in the beliefs of different faith is part of the diversity curriculum on the basis that knowledge is essential to understanding.
\"We accept that such teaching is to be conducted with some sense of sensitivity.\"

$10 says that this is just the Daily Mail's way of making an incident that's really just disobedience for the teacher look like the teacher's a religious nuthead. Teaching about other religions is common practice in European schools.
And it didn't even do a very good job either. I mean, \"my daughter was told off\"? That's supposed to be even remotely close to a concern?
...
Wait; you're taking articles from the Daily Mail now? Good lord man, get yourself a proper news source!

Geesh, give it a rest TB. Kids get in trouble fo refusing to participate in all kinds of stuff in school, whether it be studies in Wicca, or Christianity, or atheistic viewpoints, whaterver.
There are good and bad in every people group, whether it be race, religion, whatever. Judge people as individuals and drop this bigoted garbage.
Yeah, there are bad Muslims, bad Christians, bad Athiests, bad New Agers, bad \"fill in the blank\". I also have friends I respect and think highly of in all of the above.
If you really think it's so bad, why haven't you enlisted to stop it, hmmmm?

you really think TB's going to stop from trying to scare us into thinking all muslims are the boogeyman?
come on.
I suppose our only hope for this to end is that some of the genuinely radical Muslim groups are following this stuff and planning to pay TB a visit to "discuss" the issue.

Do they dare force the Muslim students to participate in christian religious activity? I bet they don't.
It's not about what the students had to endure or what their punishment was for refusing to cooperate.
It's about the sick logic behind the whole effort of European governments bending over backwards to appease Muslims who in return refuse to assimilate and instead demand more and more changes be made to accommodate their will...including allowing Sharia law to supersede their own laws.
They have Neville Chamberlain disease over there!
I find it more than a bit disturbing that many of the same people here on this board that would raise hell about Christians trying to put up a Christmas tree in a government school don't see the fast track Islam is cutting into European government as anything to talk about!

Wait a sec, you guys are claiming this is the norm in England, or that it's considered acceptable there?
I have a very hard time believing that forcing students to participate in a religious act would be acceptable in England. Doesn't matter which religion, something like that would create a firestorm (and for good reason). Britain may have more Muslims, but I can't imagine that there would be no official reaction, or that the people there would accept indoctrination any more than here in the states.
We should get our long-time resident Englander, Flabby Chick, to comment on this one.

Yes they do. In fact, my own school had an "all students must attend religion classes" rule. Will Robinson wrote:Do they dare force the Muslim students to participate in christian religious activity? I bet they don't.
Now, what did we learn about making baseless accusations?
Considered largely acceptable. Or at least in Ireland and most European countries, but England is the country with a culture most similar to USA than the other EU countries, so it might be different there. Although forcing them to participate in the rituals of other religions is very rare, learning about them is common.Foil wrote:Wait a sec, you guys are claiming this is the norm in England, or that it's considered acceptable there?

Is your school Alsager High School in England, the one we are talking about? No? I didn't think so....
Baseless? Did you even read the post you're talking about? Now, what did we learn about making baseless accusations?
The report quotes the grandfather of one of the students who's words are what my comments were based on!
Baseless?!?
I don't think so.

Not the school in question, but you were distinctly talking about Europe. Will Robinson wrote:Is your school Alsager High School in England, the one we are talking about? No? But yes, it did have non-Christian students participating in Christian religious activities the odd occasion.

And on this odd occasion did they ever force the Muslim students to participate in Christian religious activity? That is the question that I asked you seem to be dancing around it now....TIGERassault wrote: Not the school in question, but you were distinctly talking about Europe.

I know absolutely everything about the question! It is right there quoted in full. It raises the point I repeated which is the point you are trying to ignore. You might need to avoid the debate alright! But not because the old man doesn't have a right to his opinion, he does, but because you don't have the skills or courage to address the point raised! So go ahead and take your ball and go home....Wait, you were actually using a sentence spoken from an old man you know absolutely nothing about as a base?

I would be interested if Muslim students at the school or any school were ever asked to perform ceremonial acts like taking holy communion or going thru Jewish synagogue rituals? If yes show me where and when. If not then the requirement of participating in Muslim rituals is nothing more than pandering to Islamnoterrorism.
I'd also like to know if prior to 9/11 the school in question was requiring the same sort of religious teaching/participation.
