Since 2000. I only use Aus-RED-5 or AusRED5, and that goes for every game I play.

Well, if having a little pride is indicative of a RIP, I'll take that as a compliment to me and my team. Probably has a lot to do with our being one of the few functioning organizations left in the game.

I don't fully get the alias thing, either. When I play, I'm Foil, Phoil, or FoilTanker (all obviously me) depending on what I feel like flying that day.

Sure, I've seen some players use aliases to be able to play the, \"Hey, guess who?\" thing. I also know a couple of others who use aliases to protect their identity. That's cool, I guess.

What annoys me are the ones who get a new alias like \"MandMs\" or \"YoMamma\" every other day, like it's some sort of badge of uniqueness.

What's funny is, it's kinda like high school kids trying to dress uniquely... but because they all do it the same way, they're really just conforming. Kinda pointless if you ask me.

I move that Anti-Alias-August be extended through the next month, and renamed to \"Show-Some-Pride-and-Play-As-Yourself-September\".

Whereas I haven't played as Lothar in, like, forever.

I like my creative names. If people are curious and ask who I am, I'll tell them. It's not like I'm hiding anything... half the time, I'm in voice with half the people in the game anyway.

And you keep the same set of pilot names, which is cool with me. People know who you are when you join; I wouldn't necessarily call them "aliases", because they're known.

Technically by the dictionary definition of "alias", you could consider my "Foil", "Phoil", etc. names as aliases, because I never fly under my real name, David. But in this context, "alias" means something a bit different.

So maybe I should have clarified, the ones that I don't get are the ones who hide behind a different name every other day.

I got mine working yesterday, and played flip twice (1-1... but he clobbered me the second time).

As far as aliases: I used to always go by clone7, and then I switched to always going by clone7 in chat and lancer in game (with the satisfaction of hearing sfuzzi asking \"Who's lancer?\" at the Suncoast lan... and then kicking myself for not using my normal nickname), and now I always go by lancer.

Except on here, I guess...

If I could get D1 working on this box, I'd be there in a heartbeat.

(I actually did have it sort-of working... played a game... about 8 kills in, my compy started freezing for a few seconds and then resuming, and the sound got all horked.)

Only anonymous name I have ever used that I can recall would have to be...

"Someone"

Other names I use really just have to do with my ship:

Enzo03-Pyro (...)
Enzo03-Nix (Phoenix)
Enzo03-Tank (Magnum AHT)
Enzo03-Crazy (Black Pyro)

And I guess occasionally I might just use Enzo03, like in D1 and D2, except I append "X" to the end of the name when using D1X or D2X (anymore, that is all I use, now, just because I can descend the mines to some Metallica and Iron Maiden

Something I have noticed about aliases, which is true in almost any game; any name that suggests the player is a pro at sniping almost always means the pilot is a failure at it. Already been said, though... except the part where those same players are also the ones who like to say "bot" or "hax" when sniped. I suppose in D3 this would apply to the Mass Driver.

Diedel once told me in a rare appearence on Kali that he could tell who each of us were just by how we flew, but that was way back when he did not have player colors on the "hi-res pyro" yet.
I guess that would be a good enough reason as to why changing an alias would fail.
