Taking your/my vote too seriously: Get out the vote!!!1!
I've never been a fan of get out the vote efforts.
I know that sounds a little cold. But if you don't give enough of a damn to get your ass to the polling place without someone knocking on your door and shaming you into it: then I don't give a damn about your opinion; and I certaintly don't want it diminishing mine.
Why as a society do we value having everyone have their say?
The right to speak your mind when you have something on your mind is worth dying for. Encouraging people to speak their mind--when there is an aparent lack there of--seems an odd value that we seem to charish.
I see all these signs, \"just go vote!\"..
My question to you is...
.....why on earth would you want to encourage someone to do that?

I agree wholeheartedly.
I'd love it if there was at least a very simple test, just a few basic questions like:
*'Who is in the race?
*Pick one from the multiple choice list a position held by candidate #1 and then pick one for candidate #2 etc.
A...
B...
C...
* Beside you is a hole in the ground, now look in the mirror to your side and tell us which is the hole in the ground and which is your ass.

This is my first time so my dad and I will be there bright and early because I simply can't wait. Then my friends and I will watch the results on TV all night. I also have the senior center going too even though their a little lazy because they owe me.
I'm wearing my pin but dad nixed the yard sign and bumper stickers like he always does.

We absolutely don't. It's a lie.Gooberman wrote:Why as a society do we value having everyone have their say?
I hear ya, Goob. It does help you tell when someone's bull******ng, though, when they try to act like you should get out and vote no matter who you support. They denigrate our political process. It's all about getting elected. The only honest campaign is "get out and vote for me!"
Man, I shouldn't get started... now I'm pissing myself off. Goob, I appreciate the fact that you're the one that brought it up, so I tried my best not to step on your toes in the process of agreeing with you, but those a**h**** from ACORN are part of the problem.

What slays me is that here in Oregon, we have vote by mail and we usually get a less than 50% turnout. Obviously the 'get out the vote' campaigns won't make up for lazy, clueless or apathetic voters that can't even get off their fat butts, fill out the ballot and put it in the mail!
But I've just read in our paper that the county elections office is now predicting a record 85% turnout!

Why do I get the impression that you believe more in the old testament God than the newer one. Do you want some of my pills.Sergeant Thorne wrote:We absolutely don't. It's a lie.Gooberman wrote:Why as a society do we value having everyone have their say?

Isaiah 42:3 wrote:A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.
Matthew 12 wrote:18 Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles. 19 He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets. 20 A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory. 21 And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.
Thanks, I'm good.Bet51987 wrote:Do you want some of my pills.

That's what she means. It's a joke based on his shift of personality (guess you have never seen Lewis Black).Sergeant Thorne wrote:But it's the same God. The only thing that changed was the covenant and how he deals with us...

Voters simply need to cast a vote, then tell the barista at their local Starbucks and they’ll receive a tall (12 oz) cup of brewed coffee at no charge (limit one per customer). In the best tradition of democracy, we’re using the honor system for proof of voting.
