will is the first person i thought of as well. sting ray mentioned in px-ho that he was getting to busy to mod... i told him i couldn't do it because i'd prolly delete posts while being drunk and that just wouldn't be fair.

I'd suggest having more than one moderator, simply because it allows for one to take a break. This is probably the only forum we have that really needs 2 mods.

I'll jump on the bandwagon and vote for Will, as well, if he's willing. (That was some amazing accidental alliteration... wow...)

First The Cops suggested I take StingRays place, then I saw this thread this morning and didn't have time to respond.
I returned from work much later and checked it fully expecting some other people to have replaced me as a more fitting candidate. Then my family dragged me off to dinner before I could respond. So now I'm back and I have to admit I'm flattered by the support, but I do have some reservations, some selfish, some practical.

First the selfish:
To me this place is where I go to shoot the shi7 as we say. It's like the guys around the campfire or something. I don't have many people to discuss politics etc. with. My kids are too young, my wife is not into it and discussing it with customers isn't really good for business or just not practical....so I pop in here to get my fix or vent.
I'm afraid if I add responsibility to it it may not be fun anymore.

Second, the practical:
Although it may seem I'm here a lot I actually read very few threads. If I'm a moderator wouldn't I need to actually read all of them? If so there's just no way I'll do it, too much like work

Plus my business is picking up bigtime right now, everyone wants their AC's running and their ice machines freezing. I put in ten solid hours today and odds are good I'll hit at least one service call tonight before I go to bed...

If someone wants me to delete or redirect flagrant flaming and/or vulgarity when it pops up I'll be glad to help in that regard but I really don't think of myself as an old school DBB'er, in fact I never even played D2 or D1... In my mind I'm an outsider who lurks and takes potshots at other peoples flawed logic, or just posts funny crap to amuse myself I don't really feel qualified to do anything in an official capacity.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, out of respect and appreciation of my fellow DBB'ers I would fill in as an interim chaperone but I'd personally vote for a number of others who I think would do the job better than I as a permanent solution.

Not going to try and name all of them, and not in any particular order, but off the top of my head:
MehYam, Dedman, Krom, index_html, Bold Deciever, Lothar, TheCops, Palzon, Vander

...I just realized how dificult it is to name some and feel I'm insulting others just because their name didn't come to mind right away so I'll stop and just say there are many more.

Do we have any Swiss members?
We do seem to swing to the right a bit these days maybe Tricord could lend a little ying to our yang

I'm on the same page as Will here, there are a lot of people I can think of who I think would do a superb job moderating this forum.

I dont know if I personally would be all that good for the job because I was definately enjoying the flame war between bash, MD-2389 and Ferno in that porn thread. Had I been the moderator I probably would have bitched them all out and or closed the thread, which would actually be a shame since after that the discussion picked up and became very intersting again.

Actually I tend to think as long as everyone keeps their head this forum pratically runs itself.

This forum could be ruined with an over active mod, while it can last (with the occasional flame wars), without a mod. Personally if this was multiplayer, I would of made a comment in the porn thread. Probably split it as Lothar suggested. But prior to that there just wasn't very many threads in here that needed moding.

So I guess, saying that you couldn't "watch it like a hawk," is a good thing for me. But if either of you don't want it, then it should be passed to someone who does. So perhaps SR was right, people should nominate themselves

There's a definite logic to that argument.

I think it's pretty rare here when threads really go astray. I don't suspect that, being a mod, you'd have police the forum that heavily. It's only when things go over the top, or when verbal jousting becomes nasty, when things need to be investigated.

We've largely done away with the offenders, in that regard.

seriously there are lots of people who'd make a good mod. most of them don't want the job. that is a big reason why one of them should be forced to accept it.

I dont think it is all that good of an idea to push the job on someone who doesnt want it. There isnt much difference between someone who cant do the job, and someone who wont do the job if they see it as a burden. Most of us visit this fourm because its fun, you have to find someone who can mod it and still think of it as fun.

Wake me if it comes to a vote but unless my reading comprehension is off this morning Xciter has rendered a decision to mod this forum himself until which time he decides it needs a mod of its own. Ironically, SR's legacy of absenteeism shows we do a fairly respectable job of modding ourselves.
