and that's crazy.
you ever tried to get a midi file of a song?
(i use midis as a sourse of sheet music)
it's harder to get MIDI files than MP3s
It depends what kind of music you're after. I know it's worthless for boogiewoogie and blues. I often find myself frustrated after searching sheet music. They ask fortunes for it (more than what they would ask for the song on a CD) and you still have to play it yourself. There's all this fuss about MP3 but nobody finds it injust that musicians who want to play their own music have to pay fortunes for sheet music...
I've given up a long time on sheet music. I know my chords so I can accompany most music, and I improvise a lot and write my own music.

yeah you're right, you can't really get them on filesharing networks because no-one has them.
but i've noticed in the past few years that it's getting harder and harder to find websites with midis of newish songs on them.
i suspect the music industry has cracked down on them. which is plain stupid, as if it takes ANY money from the industry (haha sure ppl are gonna get midis instead of the album).
i notice that most websites (when i manage to actually find one!) that offer newish midis are selling them.
i still think it's so rediculous how the music industry cracked down on TAB and sheetmusic online.
thankfully the community resists though.
i wouldn't be playing guitar without TAB
and midis have helped me with my piano (i'm getting better).
i'd like to learn more piano but it's so annoying how hard it is to find midis (that i can convert into a piano roll, that i can read ). i mean, a while back i learnt 1000miles, that song by that chick, uh, it was a hit for a while. i wouldn't have come close to teh correct chords without the printed midi.
thankfully mario midis are still easy to find online
that's why i play more piano mario tunes than anything else (well and coldplay of course... mmm, gotta have the coldplay).

VGMusic.com still has over 16,000+ MIDIs from video games, and is growing each day.
But MIDI is definitely a dying breed. I remember several years ago, before the advent of Napster, that I had a MIDI collection several megs big.

Well, maybe MIDI is a dying breed as a distribution format, it is still the de facto standard for music communication between a digital piano and, say, a computer. I have my stage piano connected both ways to my PC via MIDI and I use MIDI to record and manipulate what I play. I always use the piano as playback device, because the MIDI playback on a computer sucks. I'm looking into buying a Kurzweil MIDI module second-hand. My boss has one that he never uses but he doesn't want to let it go
And yes, Coldplay rocks. Everybody knows it and chicks love it when you play it
