Dakatsu, what Descent CD is that track listing from? I don't know any Descent CD that had 16 tracks for the Redbook audio.

Kida, the 12 track version you are looking for is from an original release Descent II CD. The 8 track version you refer to is from the Descent I & II Definitive Collection CD 2. Fewer tracks, but they are longer mixes of the same songs vs. from the original Descent II CD. Also, the Definitive Collection CD 3 was \"The Vertigo Series\" which has the 7 additional tracks from that expansion (same tracks as on the original Vertigo Series CD).

The Mac version of Descent II had 15 songs on the CD. I can't find a track listing for those songs. I have the CD, though. Also, the Mac version of Descent I used Redbook audio instead of MIDI tracks. There are 13 tracks on that CD. Some are the songs used for Descent II, but different mixes and in a different order. Again, I don't have a track listing for the Descent I Mac CD.

Here's a listing of all the CD track info I know of. Most this came from freedb.org. There are a couple duplicates with the same track listing which represents slightly different CD releases in the freedb.or database.

Oh, Interplay's web site has 16 MP3 downloads on their Descent page. The titles match the list of songs in Dakatsu's post above.

I remember getting it off PD, in the general files - music section. (But I heard something about Interplay releasing it.) I think the last 2 tracks are for the intro and end movies.

Yes, the tracks we have at PD are the ones that Interplay originally released, and I can confirm personally that they're identical to the tracks included on the second and third disks (i.e. the D2 and Vertigo/DMB disks) of the Definitive Collection release. The last two tracks are the music from the cutscenes, and the first track combines the D2 menu music with the first redbook track (Cold Reality in Drakoz's listing). I don't think I've ever heard the versions included on the original stand-alone D2 release; I'll have to give them a listen.

Here's a Wayback Machine copy of the Interplay site with the MP3 track list around the time they were first released:

The ffshrine.org page is down; something about hosting costs. And PD now says the CD tracks are unavailable due to copyright. On the plus side, I have the Mac D1 CD if anyone wants anything from it.

I played the D2 Redbook tracks again and damn they're awesome (with a few exceptions).

It reminds me of my biggest deception of D3: the music. As Solrazor once said, either you love or you hate the D3 music. Well, I hate it :)

You know what, I think I still have a Voodoo² card lying around. Maybe I should slap a DOS machine toghether and re-play D2.
