Welp, todays the day. First American half negro president and all that. I wonder where all the complainers from the left are about the cost of this inauguration? Remember Bush's last inaugural? I mean all the bitching back then how the 40-50 mil spent could of fed a lot of homeless people. But hey, their man is in and cost is no longer a issue. I mean the country is way more prosperous today than it was four years ago and there must be a lot less homeless folk squatting around. Must be 150 million is just chump change nowadays.
Folks like to try to compare Obama to the real JFK but right off the bat I see Obama is riding in a nice new armored limousine...heated no doubt. JFK walked the route, hat less as I recall. So a nice gesture by the incoming pres, sit in a tinted window luxury car while the adoring masses stand out in the cold hours on end waiting to see your rich mans car drive by. I wonder if anyone told Obama people don't smell much when it is cold outside.
Here's hoping all this adoration for Obama doesn't get ugly when expectations don't meet reality.

Woody, I feel ya on the cost thing and the way the media won't have the same outrage over it but on the other stuff I'm losing you.woodchip wrote:....

After all didn't JFK end up assasinated? And he was a white man! In light of that history lesson and all our other terrorist enemies I'd say our first african american President needs to use the armored limo.
Will, JFK was indeed assasinated but not on his inaugural. You have to remember back then there were a number of people that hated JFK because he was Catholic. Hamid Kharzai, as president of Afghanistan and after a attempt on his life by a warlord, went out the next day and strolled the local market place to thumb his nose at his enemy. Does this mean I think Obama should walk, no it does not. On the other hand, walking would show, much as Kharzai did, that Obama does not fear our countries enemies and would send them a singularly strong message. What is sad is we have come to the point where our president can no longer walk freely among the people and needs a small army of security people to protect him.
I also refer you back to 9/11 and how the left derided Bush for being in Air Force One as though he was a coward for doing so. The Anointed One has a tough job in front of him and I wish him well in performing his duties. I just don't get think all this adoration is well placed. Bush performed his duty to \"Preserve and Protect\" admirably. It remains to be seen if Obama does as well.

So Alfred E Obama starts off by flubbing his oath. Heh, even frat boy Bush didn't do that. Curious but Obama's oath was not the same as Bidens. Excluded was the part after \"to preserve and protect\" and that was \"from enemies both foreign and domestic\". Maybe Obama's handlers figured he couldn't handle reciting the added lines.
I'm also enjoy his accolades to the military. Wonder what George Soros is thinking about now.

Woody, I think you're wrong. I don't think there's gonna be a crash, when people realize that Obama doesn't live up to their expectations. I think he's gonna stay the golden boy for a long time, regardless of how things go. Something along the lines of 50% of reality being perception.... the media will find ways to absolve him of the blame for the bad that happens, and the masses will follow. That's just my 2c.
Overall a very good uplifting speech. I'll give Obama a A for content and a B+ for delivery.
Snoopy, I don't guarantee things will get ugly. As you point out, with the protection of the liberal press, everything painted in positive terms, I suspect Obama will do well.
Bush had no such protection and still did his job.

Bush and company have left and the fate of the country is now in the hands of President Obama. I wonder if Obama will find any of the O's on the white house keyboards are missing? Say what you want, at least the Bush team had class during the transition, quite unlike his predecessor.
So what are the hate filled Libs going to do for the next four years. How are they going to vent their spleen? Any bets anything that goes wrong during Obama's term will be blamed on Bush? Yeah, that's the way to cover Obama's faux pas ! ♥
So at any rate the next four years will be fun. I have bags of popcorn ready and I'm sure some of you will hate me when this is all over.

Obama is in the perfect seat for his admin. Anything that goes wrong will be "the struggles of pulling ourselves out of the hole Bush put us in", and any of his successes will be "the great strides of our new leader Obama". The left have an almost complete monopoly in the American media, and many of the few anchors such as Nancy Grace that we have just make us look bad. Even if Obama fails miserably he's still going to be heralded as some kind of hero. Obama's policies are next to communist, and just like Stalin told his people after WW2 that "you were all screws and bolts in my soviet machine", Obama will take credit for any positives and spin the bad so that absolutely nothing will tarnish the reputation of fearless leader.woodchip wrote:So what are the hate filled Libs going to do for the next four years. I didn't vote for Obama and had alot of reservations about him. Now that he's president, I'm going to wait to see how much was actually just campaign rhetoric to get elected and where his heart really lies. Could be in a world arena he's just the man for the job. Although throughout his campaign, he was portrayed as being a namby pamby liberal, his words lately seem to be more conservative than anything else. I think I'll wait to see what actually unfolds before I make up my mind about the guy. Hmm an inexperienced noob as president. Might be exactly what this country needs to get back to its roots. I support him until he proves himself unworthy.

I agree with first post that this crap costs too much... I was thinking that to myself while watching this, \"two million people, how much does this crap cost???\"...
Thinking about it, 0.5% or more of the population of the United States of America was all in that small area. Jesus christ!
And as a correction, Obama walked portions of the walk, and in other portions rode in the limo. He did both.

Ah people, Roberts flubbed it TWICE! The first one was when Roberts paused for a second at the beginning, which caused Obama to think it was his turn to speak and then Roberts ended up talking over Obama for a moment. The second one was when Obama stopped because Roberts had totally misplaced the word 'faithfully' in that segment. Obama paused to give Roberts a chance to correct himself. Obviously Obama had memorized the Oath of Office and knew it had not been spoken correctly by Roberts at first.
Listen closely in the video. I've heard liberals whine that Roberts did it on purpose, although I doubt it personally. Roberts was probably just nervous since it was his first time doing it.

As some people stated, Roberts really should have been going off of notecards or something. You may look more suave without them...but only until you flub up and cause the new President to flub up in turn.
You know, I look at a lot of the peanut gallery comments around here, and I think to myself...this is exactly what's wrong with this country at the moment. Too many talking heads so content with hearing themselves blather on and on that they never manage to remove their heads from their asses and look around at what's what. I consider myself to be on the conservative side of the fence on most issues, and I didn't even vote for Obama, but I hope that every single one of the ideals he put forth during that truly excellent speech comes to pass during his tenure. Because if they don't...we're all pretty much boned, no matter what letter we affix next to our names.

c'mon, woody. short terms moves in the Dow, either up or down, (or any other index) are hard to place reliably on ANY one single reason, or individual. let's see what the data looks like smoothed out over a couple of months or longer before we start assigning blame for policies, etc. and let's also look at other measures of the economy, not just volatile equity market indexes.woodchip wrote:BTW I see the Dow Jones is tanking big time.
