RTC battery in laptop

Can it be changed or is it a permanent part of the machine?

Friend went out of town for two days and his time and date was way off.

From what I've read in the manual it's charged when the computer is on but didn't say anything about being able to change it.

yes it can be changed, but you will probably need the service manual with the dis-assembly procedures in it to change it properly.
