Problem joining games
When I to the multiplayer menu, select TCP/IP, enter in an address, and then select the game listed and try to join, it says \"error initializing game module.\" Any idea what the problem is?

Typically it means that you aren't patched to v1.4.
If you are at v1.4, it probably means you don't have the correct .d3m for the gametype in your \\netgames folder. You can find those here.

Maybe you don't have the level. Goto http://www.planetdescent.com and d/l the level.
I have the levels, because I can run through them in single player. Maybe a little background would help. I used to play online a lot several years ago, and never really had any problems. But I went basically inactive for awhile. The first few returns worked, but my latest attempt to get in some gaming maybe last year or so, I got the same error message, but decided not to bother and didn't try and troubleshoot it. Now I'm more serious about playing some again. However, I've moved my old gaming computer down to the basement, and it isn't connected to the internet anymore. So I tried to install it on my newer computer from the disks, but was missing the 2nd disk. I got around that by putting the data from the old computer on a USB stick and then just put it in the folder on the newer computer. So in case anyone is thinking it, I don't think the lack of a proper install is the problem since D3 SP works fine, and I also had the same problem even back on the old computer last year where it was installed normally. I guess some data could have been corrupted, which I guess would require finding the 2nd disk or just purchasing another copy of D3, but I hope I can find another workaround.

flip: I'll have to look into the registry issue, but that doesn't make sense because as I said, it said the same thing on the old computer even before I transferred the files.
Krom: I never delete anything in netgames, and copied it all over from the old computer.
Grendel: I don't see how that could be the problem, since I can't even get into normal anarchy, TA, or CTF games.

Re:
That error is exactly what would happen if you had the incorrect d3m files, just download them and try it. Even anarchy/ta/ctf have d3m files, if you have the wrong ones for them it will not work.D3Alien wrote:Grendel: I don't see how that could be the problem, since I can't even get into normal anarchy, TA, or CTF games.

Did you eeven look into the netgames folder ? You should see at least these files there (betw. 150k-200k in size):D3Alien wrote:Grendel: I don't see how that could be the problem, since I can't even get into normal anarchy, TA, or CTF games.
Hoard.d3m
Hyper-Anarchy.d3m
Robo-Anarchy.d3m
Anarchy.d3m
Co-op.d3m
Entropy.d3m
Monsterball.d3m
Team Anarchy.d3m
And if you do have the files, they are most likely broken. So D/ling the current set seems like a good idea. If that doesn't fix the problem your D3 is borked and you should do a clean install.
D3 will create its registry entries when running setup in the launcher. A D3 Mercenary installation requires two registry keys to be created if you want to be able to select the BP in game as your ship.
