Batch rename in Vista
Batch rename in Vista
If there is not a rename option for multiple files can you suggest a free progie.
Krom, just talked to my friend and I got the info wrong in my original post.
He's got hundreds of files on his Win 98 ME laptop that he wants to transfer to his new Vista laptop.
They won't transfer because the file names are too long.
Besides his over enthusiastic file naming the file name is also bringing along the drive letter, folder...and he has folders inside of folders.
Any ideas, this is hours and hours of his work that can't be re-created.
P.S. I'll be using that rename utility

So just copy them to a shorter folder name, or don't drag and drop the whole drive at once. And don't copy them to the desktop either, copy them to the root folder of the drive or just one sub folder in.
Coincidentally I just copied over 630 GB (in over 34,000 files) in one swipe from one disk to another with no issues. Just keep the path names shorter than the windows hard limit of 240 characters and it will copy.
