A letter to our President.

Post by Duper »

I got this from a friend via e-mail. I doubt it's real, but it's an enjoyable read if you want to reach out and throttle our newest choice Dicta.. er President. ;)

(ya missed this one Vulcan! )

The President of the United States
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

Dear Mr. President,

You don't speak for me.

When you go to Europe and say that Americans are \"arrogant, dismissive and derisive\" of our allies, you don't speak for me. When you pander to foreign leaders, presuming to speak on behalf of all Americans, apologizing for the actions of President Bush, you don't speak for me. When you desperately try to surrender to the French and the Germans, the Russians and the Saudis, and even our great friends in the U.K., just for the sake of maintaining your \"Messiah\" image, you don't speak for me.

You and your wife may not be proud of America, but I am, sir.

The Europeans seem to have forgotten who saved their collective asses in World War II, but I haven't. I haven't forgotten the tens of thousands of American fighting men who spilled their blood all across Europe to stop a murderous psychopath and his rampaging army. And I haven't forgotten the tens of thousands more who served in theater after that war, when the threat of Soviet advance through the Fulda Gap was ever present. I haven't forgotten, because I was there, for a time, anyway. I saw the obscenity of the Berlin Wall. I saw what happened to people who tried to escape communist Germany by climbing it, or trying to navigate the surrounding mine fields. I occasionally patrolled that border, mirroring Soviet or Czech patrols. And I remember watching on TV, crying as the wall was finally torn down.

I love Germany and England (France, not so much) and was ready to put my life on the line to defend them. So were the men I served with. Many Americans continue to serve across Europe in the military uniform of the United States, more willing, apparently, than many Europeans themselves, to preserve the freedom there that we have already paid for with our blood. I spent my money all over Europe, helping those economies flourish and grow, as did many other American servicemen and women who lived and served there. My only thanks was a very small paycheck, some wonderful memories and the knowledge that I was doing something worthwhile that I could be proud of for the rest of my life. I was, until today.

And then some pandering politician comes along and apologizes for all of that. You never served your country in military uniform, sir, so you wouldn't know how positively insulting that is. In fact, you've never done anything for this country but run for office. You won the election and still you're running a campaign instead of acting like the leader of our great nation. And I don't like it one bit.

I want peace. I want it for my family, for my friends and for my country. I've earned it and will continue to do so until the day I die. I want peace with Russia and China, even Iran and North Korea, if it were somehow possible. I want there to be a free exchange of ideas and trade goods and tourism between all of our nations.
But the difference between you and I, sir, is that I would never sell out my country to gain their applause. Maybe you think you're earning their respect and admiration by being weak and apologetic, but I know better. The only thing you did was weaken my country. And I won't forget it.

I am proud of my country and not even the President of the United States can take that away from me.

Regards,
Theo L. Peebles

A few of the many complaints...

How can we surrender to Germany and France when we are not at war with them? Furthermore, why does this guy not like France? Please don't tell me it isn't this freedom fry anti-unamericans crap...

The idea that he says Obama is not proud of the United States is wrong. This was used four years ago - attack their patriotism! Furthermore, someone please explain to me this Messiah bee-ess. It's meaningless.

I have so much more that pisses me off about this, I really don't know where to begin...

He's just an angry republican who can't come to grips with the fact that his party not only lost the election but has no \"Messiah\" of it's own. I wonder how he felt when he heard of the latest defection. :)

Obama is awesome!!

Posting letters like these is a way to say things that you know or suspect aren't completely accurate but to avoid having to take intellectual responsibility for saying them, since every inaccuracy is all the fault of \"Peebles,\" the guy who not only wrote the letter but also exists!

Unless someone here is willing to own every word in that letter as their own, there isn't much point in continuing discussion about it. Maybe being willing to own parts of it would work too, but that would be tacky.

I disagree. I think Obama is directing this nation in some very dangerous directions (especially with the bail out and stimulus efforst) that will most likely "come due" after he is no longer in office thus becoming someone else's problem. Awesome? Not in my book.

As for the latest "defection" ... anyone who looks closely at that person's record and the events surrounding that "defection" can easily tell it was a "defection of convenience" and entirely motivated by politics and politics alone.

When did any of us say that we wanted to take away your opinion? We post stuff against Duper's letter, and somehow we are trying to take away your all's opinions? Damn, every debate in history has been an effort to disallow opposing opinions!

Actually, I’m surprised that some of you haven’t called Peebles a RacistBigotHomophobe, for even having the audacity to write such a letter.

Like I said, I doubt this is a real letter. Infact, there was a header on it with a name, address, phone number and email. All if which I deleted. So, go figure.

This is just an echo of very real frustration of a good many people in this country. It echos the concern over being warm and fuzzy with countries and governments that are anything but and would use something warm and fuzzy in their pillows.

Some of you, I know, think that our president is all that and a bag of chips. But there is at least an equal number that see him selling off our country for a \"new world order\" which his new Brit buddy Gordon Brown. A man who is all too happy to walk us down that wonderful path to utopian bliss.

Check out some of his new appointees.

When has Obama apologized for the US, particularly for her role in defending European freedom in WWII and during the cold war? Source? Quote?

It's kind of silly to suggest America rescued Europe. We stayed out of the fight for a long time while we sorted out what was in our own best interest and then jumped in. When we did get involved we certainly jumped in with both feet and made a huge difference but it is conceivable that Hitler could have lost without our troops getting in the fight but the price Europe would have paid in blood and money would have been incredible and our place at the table of world politics would have been weakened if we had let it go that course. Also Japan might not have attacked us if we had been sending signals that we were going to sit it out and watch. It would be a very different world today if that had happened.

As to Obama apologizing for America, he certainly has and in my mind he's been naive about what he thinks he's gaining by doing so. I don't think he's apologized for our part in WWII but for our part in the aftermath he forgets about the Marshall Plan and only remembers the formation of Israel! Frikken loser political hack he is for that one too since the euro-weenies he's delivering these apologies to are the ones who sent the Jews to the desert to be rid of them! They caused the middle east to be what it is and then blame us for it!! Frikken wussies!

No, that's not it. He said, basically, that Americans have been arrogant and dismissive of Europeans countries and their ways in the past. That's an apology. The thing is that what he's talking about has usually not been a negative thing. It sounds bad when you call what basically amounts to a resistance, and a choice, based on fundamental disagreements \"arrogance and dismissiveness,\" but that's not truly what it is, that's just what liberals think of it.

I didn't appreciate the President standing up and opening his liberal mouth on behalf of our Country to apologize for our historic, bold refusal to deviate from the values that set us apart. That was wrong.

I don't know about other conservatives, but I'm only anti-European inasmuch as European actions or ideas are unAmerican (and that includes giving authority over our country to the United Nations). That's a pretty big thing, but really aside from that Europeans are cool, in my book. I don't think less of someone for being european, at all. I think that \"arrogance\" in the face of infiriority is not altogether a character flaw (though there may be poor character at work in some cases... that's not what the President was addressing).

Your absolutely right. Saying that Obama was palling around with terrorists was probably the worst "false internet rumors" she thought up.

Edit: And honestly, I hope she runs again in 2012.

Actually the \"mid-term\" elections are due in 2010. This will be an opportunity to eject a few of the \"people\" who are NOT for the people.
