Nope, not a post on some chines gang influencing the White House but a alert for the new catch phrase for multiple partner marriages. You now, kinda like Muslim marriages with a twist of good old American ingenuity.
So it looks like what I posted under various same sex marriage threads, America will now start expanding on what can be considered marriageable. Mormons will be able to bring out in the open all their wives. Trangenders will be able to bond in a confusing state of rapture. I can't wait to marry my almost live-in raccoon. How about you?

I've heard several Christians attempting to defend polygamy from the Bible. The argument has serious theological flaws, of course. But what baffles me most is the direct and obvious logical flaw.
The Bible gives us several examples of Polygamous marriages, and not a single one of them is positive. There are some cases where we don't have enough details to say whether it was working or not. But in each and every case where we DO have some details, the relationship is full of jealousy, hatred, rivalry, and so forth.
We don't share well.

I don't have any Muslim examples for comparison. I suppose I could go back through Burton again, but I really doubt if "A 1001 Arabian Nights" would count as an authoritative source.woodchip wrote:Then how do the Muslims share?
I'd be happy to hear from anyone who HAS some examples of how well Muslim polygamy works. But I'd be very surprised if it works any better than Jewish polygamy did. If being steeped in a culture that accepts polygamy is all that it takes, Jewish polygamy should have worked better than it did.
Please note, I am NOT trying to present the Bible stories of contention in polygamous relationships as a rock-solid argument against polygamy. Just pointing out that those who try to defend polygamy specifically from the Bible have overlooked the incredibly obvious problems that the Bible showed in EVERY polygamous relationship it gave any details on.
Abraham, Sarah, Hagar? Uhm, nope, REALLY bad idea picking up those other wives. Made nothing but trouble. (I don't count Keturah here because she came after Sarah's death)
Jacob, Rachel, and Leah? THAT was a disaster from the very beginning.
Elkanah, Hannah, and Peninnah? Nothing but misery there.
What about David and all his wives? nope, that wasn't good.
Solomon? His multiple wives drove him away from God and caused him to write proverbs 27:15, "The steady dripping of rain and the nagging of a wife are one and the same."
There just aren't ANY positive examples of Polygamy in the Bible.
And, of course, don't forget that the ULTIMATE punishment for polygamy is having two mother-in-laws.
