Vista install problems

Post by Gekko71 »

I'm trying to install D3 onto my new gaming system, but getting nowhere fast. I have two copies of D3: One legit and one *coughBOOTLEGGEDcough* Neithe one will install on my new machine. It might be the discs but I get some odd errors - usually the install shield loads and then nothing, all associated processes dissapear.

I have a working install on an older machine running XP which works just fine. Is it posible to copy the install files from one machine to the other? Would this work despite the different OS? Has anyone had similar problems - or have my faithfull discs given up the ghost after a decade and I now need to download a new game from GOG?

New system specs as follows:

- Intel i7 920 @ 2.67 ghz
- 6G DDR3 Ram
- Asus P6T Deluxe Motherboard
- NVIDA GeForce GTX 295
- Vista Ultimate 64 bit
- Thermaltake Armour+ LCS case with Liquid cooling
- 2 x 1TB HDD

All thoghts welcome. Thanks people

You should be able to copy the already installed files, but if you have merc installed you are going to need some registry files as well or you might get an error about \"guidebotred\" on startup. The relevant registry keys you need are the merc uninstall strings and the HKLM\\Software\\Outrage branches.

I'm assuming you already tried installing it with compatibility mode?

Try right clicking the setup file and run as admin too.

I got it to work by copying the installed files over - thank you guys! :-) But now I have another problem - I run the game in open GL at 1280 x 960 on my monitor (which is set at 1920 x 1200) and it works fine - but when I exit a game to the menu screen, the monitor goes blank (the game is still running in the background as the music/sound effects attest).

This one has me stumped. Any ideas?

Its a bug in Nvidia drivers, it even happens in XP. You can try alt-tabbing in and out of the game and sometimes it comes back (other times it just crashes to the desktop). The game is still working so you can exit it normally by hitting the keyboard shortcuts.

Also try the D3D render mode, it might work better these days.

Thanks for that Krom - I'll stick with the keyboard shortcuts as that's what I've done in the past.

Appreciate the help! :P

3 resolution changes not in native LCD resolution without fixed aspect ratio setting enabled in the video card settings = HATE

USE THIS

-useport 2092 -framecap 150 -nopentium3 -nomusic -nointro -nooutragelogo -nomultibmp -playermessages -aspect 1.6 -width 1920 -height 1200 -deadzone0 0.0 -deadzone1 0.0

I seem to have a better workout dodging your stupidity than attempting to grasp the weight of your intelligence.

Thanks for the help Bubba (I have no idea where to insert this string mind you, but I can see what you mean about the three differing screen res & no fixed aspect ratios being a nightmare to render properly :P )

Toss the noob a bone - how do I go about implementing this string? What file(s) in the install dir do I need to edit?

Cheers Bubba :)

Copy & Paste the switches in the D3 Launcher >> Setup >> Mics.
