Descent 3 graphics

Post by SGT_BASH »

I got a Geforce FX 5200 graphics card, which supports bump mapping. I enabled bump mapping using the -bumped command, which works, and now bots and ships look much better. However, only bots and ships are bumped, terrain and buildings are not. Is there any way to enable bump mapping on buildings and terrain? Also I noticed that bump mapping creates a strange effect, where in magnum, phoenix and pyro there are only bump maps displayed, this creates an effect where there are see-through holes in ships. Is there any way to fix this?

No and no. I believe both of these issues are addressed in the README file.

Hehe. It's the EMBM version of bump mapping too - and not the DOT3 version.

It's not possible (AFAIK) to create bumped textures for the walls - only objects can be bumped. I pushed hard for the Pyro GX to have Bump-Mapped textures, coz I love 'em - but it didn't happen.

The missing parts are probably a driver issue with the nVidia drivers. I've had D3 running on 3 different video cards (1 x Matrox G400, and two ATI cards) and bump mappoing looks perfect on them.

Actually I think that bump mapping bug is a D3 problem not a driver problem mobius, IIRC it is fixed in 1.5.

what, you've waited this long already and it's only been a couple months since the last time Kevin posted any new updates and somehow its "officially dead"?

Have some faith, I still think it'll be ready this year .
