backlight CCFL death ETA?

Post by EngDrewman »

My laptop is about 4 years old and has been used very heavily. Recently, as I boot from a cold start, for about the first 1-2 seconds when the display lights up, I notice a very, very slight pink tint. I know this means the CCFL backlight is starting to go bad, but any idea how long till it burns out? Is failure imminent, do I have a few months, or like a year?

I know it can be replaced, but is a very tedious, risky procedure. I have been planning on replacing my laptop in another year or so when Win 7 comes out, so I'm trying to prop it up until then.
