(Solved)Going back to school, laptop.

Post by Isaac »

I'm getting an accounting degree (finance) and thought that taking notes on a laptop would be much faster for me. It's been a while since I've been to school. Your thoughts?

Can you type faster than you can write with a pen and paper, without looking at the keyboard?

Writing on a computer is so much faster than pen+paper that it's almost impossible to overstate it. As far as taking notes goes, I'd be totally screwed without my computer.

Cool ok.
I'm kind of worried about people telling me my key strokes are loud or something. Also I'm worried about weight and desk space so a 10.1\" might be an option. But I don't know anyone that owns one. I can type just as fast on the smaller keyboard. (I just visited radio shack)
In case you can't tell, I'm sort of panicking about going back to school.

Do you need the laptop for anything other then taking notes?

Well if size is a big concern, and if your only doing it for school, like notes and such, then if I were you I would get a Netbook, the Asus Eee PC, MSI wind, Dell Mini, Acer Aspire. My personal favorite is the MSI Wind. But I have also been eye balling teh Dell Mini 9 to turn it into a hackintosh.

As long as the screen size meets your needs for all your accounting stuff, you should be fine.

It sounds like it should be ok, but I'll have to hit that wall when I get to it.
edit:
I mean I can't imagine a 10.1\" screen being too small, but maybe after 8 hours of work, it would be.
