Corrupt Menu Displayed

Just recently installed D3 on my new machine and am using the 1.5 patch. I've got a Radeon HD 4670 on a Viewsonic 1680x1050 LCD.

When I launch the game the menus are distorted and hardly readable. If I attach my old 1280x1024 monitor, everything looks fine. On the new screen I can hardly read anything as the image is distorted with verticle lines and ghost images. This happens in the menus only, not the game itself.

I've tried using the command line -height 1050 -width 1680 -aspect 1.6 commands and the problem persists. I've selected OpenGL mode.

Any suggestions?

That sounds promising... how do I do that? Would that only affect the menus?

Why the 1.5 patch? Try the 1.4, that's what everyone (plus all the dedicated servers) use.

Tried the 1.4 patch also. Same problem.

Weird that it looks fine on my old 4:3 LCD and not my new 16:10 one...

Any other ideas?

Last time I saw weirdness like that in the D3 menu, it was because of really old graphics drivers.

Choose Direct3D instead of OpenGL.

Thanks for the suggestion. Direct3D didn't help unfortunately.

On another note, my graphics drivers are using the latest ATI Catalyst version.

Here's some examples of what I'm seeing (see below).

The first and second image is the main menu as it should look and as it looks on my widescreen lcd. The third and fourth image are the same but on the auto map.

It looks like the problem lies when the video card is forced into a 640x480 mode while in the menu and automap. Any way to change that?

Any other suggestions?

well yeah. D3 has serious issues if you push it out of regular dimentions.

I've not had to deal with the whole wide screen thing so I don't have many ideas other then try a standard res.

try a custom game config and disable advanced multimonitor features in your video card control panel

If it's happening in both OpenGL and Direct3D, and only for the menus and automap (which you're correct, are forced to 640x480), I think it would be a monitor thing.

Try setting the drivers to maintain the aspect ratio - you'll get black bars on each side while in 640x480 mode, but it might be more stable.

Another thought - what kind of video cable are you using? Bad interference on an analog cable (e.g. VGA) can cause that kind of ghosting.

I'd give the \"-subpixelcorrect\" commandline a try.
