Alternate keyboard

Post by Private_Joker »

I'm using a left-hand Dvorak keyboard, but D3 takes the input as standard QWERTY. This means that when I try to type messages in game chat, they look an awful lot like

Does D3 support alternate layouts? How can I change the input?

Which OS are you using? I know in Windows you can change the keyboard layout, and D3 should work with that.

WinXP. The layout is changed, but D3 doesn't accept it. I think it takes direct input and just assumes that it's QWERTY, but it's not.

Just use Descent 3's keyboard layout config options ... and re-program each key for what you want. Simple.

I think your only hope would be for there to be an (undocumented) command-line option out there to control keyboard layout.

D3 reads keycodes, bypassing the code-to-character translation of windows.

...which means your only hope is to find a third-party key-translator that converts the keycodes before D3 catches them; although I'm not sure one exists, unless it's a hardware solution.

Don't know if that will do much for the \"D3 reads keycodes, bypassing the code-to-character translation of windows.\", sent to D3, but it may be worth a try.

It is inline at the USB port and translates the signals in hardware before D3 sees it so it should have no problems.

Yep, a hardware solution like that should work fine.
