weird ftp problem

Post by Isaac »

So if you're organizing file names using excel. Don't copy and paste the text directly to the file, if you intend to send it to your ftp server. My server kicked me out and gave back an error. After getting really upset I finally figured out why it was doing that. Hope this helps someone.

So what was it doing? Was it some problem with the text encoding in excel?

Sorry, I should have said that. Yes. Even though it's \"plain text\" to excel, it's apparently a bit more in the eyes of unix.

Actually it could have been the FTP client you were using rather than the server (although if either one lacked proper international support you would get similar results).

I did try the command line ftp client and received the same error. But it's possible that both clients had the same encoding support problem.
