Decimal to Nonary in Equation Form?

Post by Dakatsu »

Does anyone know a way to convert decimal notation to nonary by mathematical equation?

Nonary, as in \"base 9\"?

It's just a series of divisions.

... Oh, you mean a conversion which gives you an answer in decimal, you just read it as nonary? (E.g. Plug in 100 in decimal, get \"121\"?)

Thats what I want, I have no idea if such a thing is possible, but I did search around.

Off the top of my head, I don't know of any straightforward equations. I think the calculation might have to be applied as a script.

Why wouldn't the division method suffice?

Short story: in my fictional universe, a side uses a nonary numeral system. The ammo counter on their weapons uses nonary, hence I'd want to have it displayed in nonary.

Pretty well I need a way to do it on a computer, with a decimal number in, and a nonary out.

Oh, you just need an 'easy converter'.

Heck, just use one of the online conversion sites, or set it up in a spreadsheet, or better yet, just write a little program to do it. The division method will work fine.

make sure handle the right side of the decimal separately - which you multiply instead of dividing.

I guess I could just translate up to 999, shouldn't be too hard.

Thanks for the idea tho! :)
