sphere magnet + metal ring

Post by Isaac »

I was thinking about a space tether when I had an idea about building a platform in space. But I think I would need a scale mode first.

If I had a perfectly spherical magnet with the radius of 2.0\" and a metal ring/braclet with the interior radius of 2.05\" could i achieve perfect equilibrium? Or would I need another ring at 90deg.

Yeah. It wouldn't be a perfect scale model since the pull of the magnet is far stronger than the earth's gravity but it's an even pull on a spherical surface.

The real platform would be using concrete or something.

Depends how you formed the magnet, one pole would have to be at the center for you to achieve what you want. Would also have to be precisely built, with no flaws.

At least for it to work, in a Omnidirectional mode.

That’s what my gut is telling me anyway, because of how flux lines vary.

Just invent room temperature super conductivity.
