Getting Back In The Game

Post by Kestrel »

OK, so I haven't played Descent in years and computer hardware and OS'es have obviously moved past the 486 DX66's and Pentium MMX's that I used to play Descent on, but I'd like to get back in the game.

What does an old fogey like me need to do to get Descent 2 and 3 running on my modern rig (iMac Intel w/ OS 10.6 and Win7 Bootcamped)? I have all of my old D1-D3 discs for the PC, if that means anything.

I took a look at the old D1X and D2X projects which is how I got my fix in the Win 2K/XP days, but those projects looked semi-defunct? I see there's a couple of new projects out there now. Which one should I take a look at?

Is it possible to play D2 and D3 in OS X using one of these new projects? I'd much rather play without having to reboot my machine or run a vm.

Thanks for helping out an old mine jockey!

For Descent and Descent 2 all you need is the install disks (and patches + dosbox to run them if the disks you have don't have D2 v1.2/Vertigo or D1 v1.4a or higher) and: http://www.dxx-rebirth.com/

Descent 3 should just work in Windows.
