Shattered Horizins free play

Post by CDN_Merlin »

Sorely needing new blood, Futuremark has done the sensible thing in setting up a free play weekend for their rather good space FPS, Shattered Horizon:

Futuremark Games Studio today announced that Shattered Horizon, their PC exclusive multiplayer first-person shooter, will be free to play and 50 percent off to buy on Steam this weekend. Shattered Horizon's innovative zero gravity gameplay has recently been enhanced by the Moonrise content pack which added four new levels and a major update which included many features requested by players.
\"This weekend PC gamers everywhere can play Shattered Horizon for free,\" said Jaakko Haapasalo, producer at Futuremark Games Studio. \"And for the duration of the weekend, even though we recently doubled the size of the game by adding new levels, we are offering it to players for half the price, just $9.95 / €9.95.\"

In Shattered Horizon, a catastrophic explosion on the Moon has filled near-Earth space with billions of tons of rocky debris. Teams of players fight in zero gravity to control the limited supplies that mean the difference between survival and death in the cold of space.

Moonrise Free Weekend on Steam:

Starts 00:01 GMT Friday 19 February (19:01 EST Thursday 18 February)
Ends 21:00 GMT Sunday 21 February (16:00 EST Sunday 21 February)
Players can start pre-loading Shattered Horizon from Steam late Wednesday evening onwards.

System requirements:

Shattered Horizon requires DirectX 10, a DirectX 10 compatible video card, and Windows Vista or Windows 7. There is no support for Windows XP or DirectX 9. Minimum and recommended hardware requirements can be seen here.

Dedicated Servers:

Players and game hosting companies who would like to put up their own servers during the free weekend can get the dedicated server files now from the Shattered Horizon website or from the Tools tab within Steam.

With the half-price discount and the four-copies-for-three four pack deal, you could get Shattered Horizon for as little as $7.49875!

well gee, since only about 20% of PC users have Vista or Win7, it's not really surprising.

Ya jump of the wagon too soon and you'll get a mouth full of dirt. ;)

all the same, thanks Merlin!

haha, i never knew FutureMark - benchmarking software company, decided to make games.

i suppose it's not surprising when you think about it, the benchmarks themselves are basically just a bunch of game demos with performance requirements that disappear up into the clouds.

I suppose they are in the business of encouraging people to upgrade their systems. So that's why it's Vista/WIN7 DX10 only.

I've been playing this game for a while now.

It's not Descent-style (no joystick support, no chording speed boost, etc.), but it is 6DoF, and they've now fixed most of the big bugs and released some extra maps.

The point-capture game modes (particularly 'Battle') are actually a lot of fun. If you have Vista/7, check it out; heck, it's free this weekend. :)
