Why are you so terribly disappointing? wrote:What the hell is wrong with you? Are you really going to wear that? Why aren't you right now cooking me a nice meal and wearing those hot boy shorts you know I love and saying those words you know I want to hear at exactly the moment I like to hear them, to make me feel better about everything, even though I probably won't?
What happened to my bonus? What happened to my job? What happened to my country? Why can't it all go the way it's supposed to go? You mean having a kid won't solve my marriage problems? Why don't these drugs make me feel better? Where's that god-damn waiter with my salad? Have you seen the stupid weather today? Is this really all there is?
These are, from what I can glean, the most important questions of the day, of the month, of modern life itself. [..]

Man, this guy has an awesome point. Everything to everyone blows these days. Nothing is appreciated. Every generation sinks to new lows, and achieves a greater form of moron.

Some of the increased internet whining is, IMO, stoked by the media hyping up the \"great recession\" (such a stupid moniker), \"terrorism\", \"catastrophic climate change\", and so on. These huge, seemingly intractable problems create a lot of stress for people and, for the most part, we can't individually do anything about them.
Our political leaders haven't exactly helped those fears. Democrats think Bush's approach to terrorism made things worse, and are hella pissed Obama continued it. Republicans think Obama's deficit spending and stimulus plan is making a moderate recession into a huge one, and Bush's deficit spending and stimulus plan didn't help either. The approach to climate change seems to be to either ignore it, or fly thousands of people in thousands of private jets to a place with thousands of limos so they can get together and talk about ways to tax the hell out of jet fuel and gasoline. And that's how we handle serious problems? REALLY?
(The guy's \"Obama is pretty good, just not quite Jesus so he can't do all the good things his saintly supporters want instantly, and Bush is the worst ever, but wasn't able to do all the evil things his evil supporters want\" take is unnecessarily partisan and d-bag-like and detracts from an otherwise pretty good rant.)
A second major contributor to the whining is the fact that we're dealing with the internet, and particularly media websites with no comment moderation, where the worst of human nature can be displayed to a large audience without repercussion. Everyone who's remotely disappointed feels like they can rant about how lame your grandma's cookie recipe is and what a [censored] your grandma is for making such a [censored] cookie recipe. Go to a website with comment moderation, ratings, and some connection to your real identity, and people are much more civil.
And with all the whining on the internet about how much your grandma sucks and how bad the recession is, normal people still go about their normal, everyday lives. They love their wife and kids. They still go to work in the morning, come home at night, have some dinner, watch some TV, and go to bed. They enjoy playing games on their computer, watching football, hanging out with their friends, going to church or the mall or whatever other social activity. Like always, there are some looking for work who don't have it, and some who have to cut back, and some doing just fine, and pretty much everyone is finding a way to make do. For all the d-bag-ness we see on the internet, in my experience, normal people aren't any whinier than they were five, ten, or twenty years ago. The whiners just have an easier time getting it out to a large audience on unmoderated websites.

It seems the author is surprised by the new participatory-media aspect of web 2.0.
Where now everyone has a viewpoint and is able to express it to all, paying no respect (and none is due!) to the crotchety old-boys-club of the old media and their archaic publishing houses.
I'm finding the new retard filled landscape somewhat refreshing . It's good that it's all out there in public, because just think: these people vote. They used to be able to just keep their stupidity to themselves, but now they are leaking it into public discourse, where it can be dealt with by the public at large. \"Here's your sign\".
A glorious new wave of village idiots are comming outof the woodwork. So put your best ass stomping boots on everyone .
My new hobby is dealing out appropriately fitting insults to people in youtube video comments.
