Problem- The other night I had ran a defrag program called Defraggler, and I came home to find that it had not auto shutdown and the screen saver was on. When I logged back in, it shut down. When I did a reboot my computer is telling me that I have limited or no connectivity to our router. Our office computer, which is the main one hooked up to the Internet, says there is nothing wrong with the connection.
I have ran anti virus scans on both computers and tried unplugging the router for a while. I am really tempted to press the reset button on the back of my router but all that will do is restore the connection and make it so both computers will not recieve an internet connection.
All this is completely out of the blue, I have not expierenced this issue before
And I have not been torrenting 150+ gig porn files bubbalou
Usually we say \"reboot and try again\" when something like this happens. You can also go into network connections, right click local area connection and hit \"repair\" in XP or later to see if it helps.
And seriously, \"defrag c:\" at the command prompt (or in windows 7 scheduling an automatic run once a day) is all you ever need for defragmentation, I hope you got Defraggler directly from Piriform at least even if it is ultimately useless.
I have already rebooted + i use XP which I forgot to mention.
And I cant use the 'repair' function because I do not have administrator privileges. This is due to the fact that when I go to user accounts in a different account, my own account doesnt show up there.... wth
If that doesn't work you could try setting the Ip stack by opening a cmd prompt and typing
You need administrator rights on the machine before you can do anything. (Try logging in as \"Administrator\" with no password, works 90% of the time. )
even better. shut down all pc's , the pull the plug on the router and modem. (that's the power cord only)
wait 60 seconds power back up the modem, let it sync the power up the router and sync. now star the pc.. look for network activity light on the back of the pc.. if good look at the port light on the router if good and still limited connectivity uninstall your firewall reboot and reinstall.
Most likey it is an issue with the rats nest of cables you use as a footrest under your desk (damaged cat5 cable)
Notice at no time was mentioned press the reset button on your router... you're on your own if you do that
I seem to have a better workout dodging your stupidity than attempting to grasp the weight of your intelligence.

Doesn't work, and I have no firewall protection on both computers.

Which computer?
Should work on anything that is 2000 or better. On the one you are having connection issues. This will reset your IP stack to default setting when you first setup the computer. You when then restart the computer.
Instead of running command prompt normally, you need to go to start ---> all programs ---> accessories ---> Right click Command Prompt and select \"Run as administrator\" before that command will work.
Also for future reference, is there a way to edit the registry in XP so that you can open programs in the control panel as an administrator? Because on the XP computer I mainly run things as an administrator because of that wierd user accounts glitch that stops me from changing my account status.
[/on topic]Command prompt says I need a reboot. BRB
By default if you have an Administrator account in XP, Everything runs as Administrator.
You can get Vista and Windows 7 to behave the same way by logging in with an account that has administrator privileges and disabling UAC (not recommended).
on the xp box, winkey+r and type cmd in the run box. then type \"ipconfig /all\" without quotes use the scroll bar and locate you ethernet adapter if the ip address is something other than 192.168.xxx.xxx or 10.1.xxx.xxx the yes it's a hardware problem bad cable or bad nic or pligged into a bad port on the router or even parental lockout in the router if you were given an ip since you make no mention of xp saying cable unplugged. or you had an update on a driver that got fubared by defrag

Figured out the problem. When I uninstalled McAfee on the office (vista) computer, thats when I was not able to connect. I didn't see this immeadiately because it stopped working after a reboot.
I also get this error message \"The TCP/IP network transport is not installed\"
Nevermind its working again. I entered the 'netsh winsock reset' command and restarted but to no avail. But then my dad decided to disable my Hamachi VPN connection and somehow I now have internet on my side.
