CONFIDENTIALITY NOTE

Post by Heretic »

The Missouri Bar Disciplinary Counsel requires all Missouri lawyers to
notify all recipients of e-mail that (1) e-mail communication is not a secure method of communication, (2) any e-mail that is sent to you or
by you may be copied and held by various computers it passes through as it goes from me to you or vice versa, (3) persons not participating in our communication may intercept our communications by improperly accessing your computer or my computer or even some computer unconnected to either of us which the e-mail passed through. I am communicating to you via e-mail cause you have consented to receive
communications via this medium. If you change your mind and want future communications to be sent in a different fashion, please let me know immediately at
Good thing I never do anything wrong. I sent an email to a friend and this was at the end of the email she sent back. It's something new I've never seen her do this before. Funny how time changes things so much.

Did you send a private email to a business address? or did you send her a business email?

She is a friend and it was a casual conversation to catch up on things. I already knew the dangers of intercepted emails. This is the first time she ever put that at the bottom. Just threw me off a bit since I've never seen her do it before. If I want to talk business I would call her on the phone to tell I was coming by her house. After all face to face is best when dealing in business of law.

I am communicating to you via e-mail cause
It's \"because\" or, if you want to sound folksy, 'cause!

Looks like a pretty standard business-email signature to me.

You'll often see it when someone uses their corporate email account, whether or not they're using it for personal correspondence. Many companies' HR departments require having similar language in auto-signatures.

Got this on an e-mail from an Insurance company today
American Family wants to make you aware of the risks of communicating via e-mail, since personal information may be discussed. E-mail cannot be guaranteed as a secure or confidential means of communicating. It is possible that someone else may access these e-mail transmissions.
American Family Mutual Insurance Company denies liability for the acquisition of any personal information from these e-mails by a third party. By continuing to use e-mail, you are agreeing to accept this risk.
it's just pretty standard disclaimer lingo

In otherwords, they are telling you tom be smart and not put anything in email that may get you in trouble.

Common sense which sadly most of the world is lacking these days.
