NOTE: this thread was split from the "Ted Koppel" thread by Lothar. It focuses on the question "what accomplishments has the US made in Iraq?"

Haven't you been watching the news, Z? Why just recently we caught a lot of fellers that been runnin' round nekkid with hoods on their heads. I, for one, am damn happy we put a stop to that nonsense.

In the future, do your own homework: http://www.usaid.gov/iraq/accomplishments/

This is very strange. I keep replying and it places my posts above Zuruck's. Congrats, Z, I guess you're about as low as it goes. :P

HEY, Z, LOOK UP HERE!

and Bash, what successes would those be? The liberation of the country that is still in shambles? Beating Saddam militarily, did anyone think we wouldn't? Stopping a madman's "weapons programs" because WMD were never explicity stated as being existent? I wouldn't even begin to say it's a success yet. Our energy dependency is still there, the liberation of the Iraqi people does not seem to be taking hold, the American version of the Iraqi flag isn't too popular. All we did was take over a country that was far less of a military might than we are. We took out a leader that was horrible to his people, much like the countless others out there today. Now this is my opinion, but I don't think we have scared the Islamic militants quite yet, they are so fanatical that I don't think anything besides a bomb dropping through their roof would scare them.

So I would like to know what successes the 750 odd deaths have brought us? Please list them out with bullets. I dont want anything political. Explain what we have done in a non-biased way.

no crickets..i only use the dbb at work..so if you post after a certain time...it's a good bet that i wont read it until the next day. I don't get the running round nekkid joke, I hope it's not a joke about the prisoners. Even if you think Iraqis are bad people, they are human beings and don't deserved to be treated like that by Americans. I thought we were better than that. Hmmm, Iraqi accomplishments huh...I guess it must be working because the US casualty total keeps slowing down instead of speeding up. I sure am glad our country's financial and global situation went to hell so that we could "liberate" some people. I hope it was worth it in the long run.

Aww, your compassion toward the poor naked Iraqi prisoners who had their weenies laughed at by a little girl Marine is touching. Remember what the Iraqis did to our POWs in the early part of the war, Z? They murdered them. Shall I post photos so we can have an honest debate over the realities of war?

Bash, aren't we supposed to be better people? More civilized? I guess our moral high ground isn't that high.

but you didnt answer my question..I'll agree our POWs were not treated well at all. But apparently this Hamill guy said he was treated ok, he had medical supplies, water, and other items. So the insurgents have a little heart I suppose.

What makes it ok for American soldiers to treat them like that?

Who said it was OK? But it's far less savage or uncivilized than what was done to our people by comparison. Hell, some men pay to have done to them the treatment the Iraqi POWs received by a very small number (seven) of misguided jailers. It's just the liberal cause du jour (in between lame potshots slamming Pat Tillman) and it will be a distant memory for the vast majority of Americans in a few days. That said, haven't those service personnel responsible already been relieved of duty and are they not currently in the process of being court martialed? What more do you want. Z? Oh, heh, and Hamill said he was treated OK, did he? Link me, please. So I guess that makes it OK to shoot civilians and take them hostage while their wounds become infected. Damn decent of those fellows.

It's not a liberal soup du jour bash. It sickens me that you, and i like you funny enough, possess this holier than thou attitude towards everyone else that is either 1. not american or 2. not republican. You try to justify everything that American is doing wrong by simply saying we are just in anything. Apparently, the Pentagon knew about these things going on in January, and it just now broke. You think them being court martialed is good enough? Do you think now the stories that Amnesty and the Red Cross put out saying there is widespread abuse is inaccurate?

Yes I do. As far as that other stuff, I think you make a really crappy American and I'm not a Republican, I'm a conservative. I believe you suffer from self-loathing and are too blind to be ashamed of the hate you spew and the despair you seek to spread. I see my role as an antidote to the pessimism and negativity you fools pass out like you're doing us a favor. I don't suffer fools kindly and it's not going to soften anytime soon. We are at war and I am doing what I can to promote victory.

You're too proud to admit you're wrong and those people are still human beings. Regardless of what you might think.

Um, yes, they are and I have never said otherwise despite your constant attempts to cast that light on me. Better luck next time.
