Thought Police

Post by Heretic »

Psychologist J. Peter Rosenfeld thinks that we will be able to catch terrorist by scanning their brain waves. Don't we all ready have enough Thought Police in the world?

They are not talking about mass scanning. One on One scanning. This is hardly a new subject every few years some one suggest we use EEG (electroencephalography) as a new type of lie detector. Rosenfeld uses it by flashing pictures of city, dates, and time and was able to find the where and when of hypothetical attacks based on his students brainwaves. All they did was plan hypothetical attacks.

Maybe in 15 or so years you can do this kind of brainwave scans en masse. Back in 2006 the Center for American Progress had a panel discussion of \"Mind Wars: Brain Research and National Defense.\" where Dr Paul Root Wolpe, said \"it is realistic that in ten to fifteen years, it could be possible to directly connect the human brain to the internet.\" With people minds connected to the internet you better have some great encryption going on up there.
Despite such an earth shaking advancement being possibly a decade away, there exists no body of ethical oversight OR laws governing such research. The biggest sponsor of this type of research is the Federal Government, often funding scientific studies through the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, DARPA.

If they could scan my brain it would have to be with an electron microscope. :P
It's never good to wake up in the shrubs naked, you either got way too drunk, or your azz is a werewolf.

i remember reading somewhere that tinfoil hats would actually make it easier to scan a brain

I dont see how. If its reading the electical emissions of the brain, a tinfoil wrapping would act like a faraday cage for it, making all emissions reflect back inward and thus becoming undetectable.

Then again, a 360-degree tinfoil hat is impossible, so it would direct all emissions straight down...

Put the mind readers in the floor I guess?
