Prison Economics Help Drive AZ Immigration Law

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/stor ... =130833741
article wrote:What he was selling was a prison for women and children who were illegal immigrants.

"They talk [about] how positive this was going to be for the community," Nichols said, "the amount of money that we would realize from each prisoner on a daily rate."

But Nichols wasn't buying. He asked them how would they possibly keep a prison full for years — decades even — with illegal immigrants?

"They talked like they didn't have any doubt they could fill it," Nichols said.

That's because prison companies like this one had a plan — a new business model to lock up illegal immigrants. And the plan became Arizona's immigration law.

Prison economics becoming the law isn't anything new. Do you honestly think the war on drugs is about helping society?

If you make the prison system socialized the government will do its best to find ways to keep people OUT of prison. However if you make the prison system privatized then private interests will do their best to find ways to keep people IN prison.

Neither, in both cases you have selfish bastards looking out for their own interests eroding the administration of justice.

Yeah, just ask the hikers who wandered into Iran if they had any chance for a discussion. Ask someone who sneaks into Mexico how much "discussion" they can have on the topic. Why don't you take your "I hate America" philosophy to another board.

Woodchip, you look more like an America hater to me, with your avatar. Why do you hate our duly elected executive? Stop hating the face of America. You hater. Why do you hate America?

while I do not agree with Woods pictoral image of our President. I'll point out to you the charactures that the left posted about Bush while he was in office, they make Woods pictures tame.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”

I was trying to point out how silly it was to resort to the "you hate America" tack.

Actually I don't hate Obama. I just think he is a idiot. Any doubts were removed after his buffoonish appearance on Jon Stewart's show. America now has an official court jester.

And yet John Stewart was one of the few people who asked decent questions, all the other cable news shows even including Fox would throw more softballs because all they worry about is access and keeping that access instead of actual information.

As to calling me an American hater, why don't you use a more appropriate comparison... don't you think it's gross to have to use countries like Iran and Mexico to make your image of America better? You didn't throw out a country like Denmark because of how much better their prison system is.

I get sick with the thought of private jails and I don't see how anyone could support something like that after the fiasco in PA. with a judge, being paid by a for profit juvenile detention center was putting children in jail for inane things like talking back to a teacher... for 6 months. Then when they're review would come around the jail would simply say \"Well they need more time in here!\" and the judge would instantly OK it.

The real discussion needed is not private/public prisons but what we're doing wrong in this country to have such an outlandish crime rate compared to other civilized countries, why our jails are over flowing, and what we can do to stop it.

Well, we've had an unbroken line of those since the 80s, at least.
