I'm not much of an Otaku but, I only liked a FEW anime series (Nothing wrong with anime, though).
Anyways, I liked Robotech (obviously!) (I like the series, but not freakin' Harmony Gold), Gundam Wing, G-force: Guardians of Space (I remember that series as a kid), Eureka Seven, and Macross Plus.

I personally like the following (in no particular order):
-Eureka Seven - probably my favorite anime of all
-Claymore
-Detective Conan
-Martian Successor Nadesico - an anime that makes fun of anime, and a great story too.
-Lain - may put you to sleep, fond memories of watching this one on weekends in high school years
-Macross Plus and Frontier
-Most, if not all, of the Ghibli films
-Tenchi Muyo
-Trigun
-Outlaw Star
-Chobits
-Samurai Seven
Some I haven't seen but have heard great things about and plan to see:
-Clannad
-GitS: Stand Alone Complex
My wife loves to read the One Piece manga. I have only seen one of the movies and it was really entertaining.
And some my wife and I saw that looked good while I was in Japan last week. Will probably have to download them, doubt most of these are over here yet.
ーなばりのおう
ー夏目友人帳
-シャク眼のシャナ
ー湾岸 ミッドナイト - older one, father-in-law recommended it
ーSummer Wars

Unless a lot of people here can read Japanese and I just don't know about it you are just being annoying with this list so I'll romanize it:Xamindar wrote:ーなばりのおう

ーSummer Wars
Nabari no Ou
Natsume Yuujinchou
Shakugan no Shana
Wangan Midnight
Nabari no Ou wasn't all that great (unless you like vaguely BL content).
Natsume Yuujinchou has a pretty mellow pace but doesn't get tedious or boring (I like series like that a lot).
Shakugan no Shana produced one of my favorite soundtracks ever, but the first season is only decent, the second is rather poor, and the recent OVA only had a couple good episodes. Stick to the movie instead just because its shorter.
I haven't seen or read Wangan Midnight.
Summer Wars was pretty fun, I'll be keeping an eye on stuff from that director for now anyway.
Also if you like Claymore you should check out the manga which is still ongoing. The anime had a rather disappointing original ending.
Re:
Thanks for doing that. But you don't need to be so rude about it. I didn't think you were that kind of person...until now.Krom wrote: Unless a lot of people here can read Japanese and I just don't know about it you are just being annoying with this list so I'll romanize it
I had them posted on my PDA and was just being lazy by cutting and pasting them here. I figured anyone who actually wanted to look them up could just cut-n-paste them in google to get any info on them. Sorry to offend you Krom.
Why doesn't it work?

Sorry, I'm a little accustomed to the Something Awful forums/ADTRW where posting gratuitous Japanese is a bannable offense. Also googling them returns mostly Japanese results so it is a useless wall of moon runes to most people who might be interested. I can only read Kana so I had to check the youtube videos to figure out a couple of them, not really an option for most people here.

I haven't seen enough anime yet to pick any favorites.Aggressor Prime wrote:If you are into anime, which ones are your favorites?
Project A-ko?
I luv the new Guyver series. I've only seen the first 8 episodes, however.
I'm hooked on Martian Successor Nadesico *_* I was expecting something more serious until I watched it. I can't wait until I can watch the rest of the series.
Tenchi is awesome, if I recall correctly.
I loved the first episode of Yu Yu Hakusho, but I don't think I'd be interested in the rest of the series.
The only 2 Anime films I've seen that I truly hate are beautiful dreamer and ninja scroll. =P The former is one of the two worst films of any type that I've ever seen.

can we do that here? please?Krom wrote:Sorry, I'm a little accustomed to the Something Awful forums/ADTRW where posting gratuitous Japanese is a bannable offense.

My top animes at the moment are Clannad, Elfen Lied, and Zegapain. Code Geass, Air, and Gundam Seed are also good. Over the next few weeks, I'm watching Rahxephon which looks interesting. I've seen some of Ghost in the Shell, mostly the movies; although I think I like Zegapain better from a cyberpunk perspective.
Yea, I would highly recommend RahXephon…seen it…left me wanting more.

If you have ever seen *cough*eva*cough* and didn't like the ending, you will probably find this funny: http://krom.sploitz.com/temp/fakeeva/ (note: one of the jokes is better if you have ever seen G-Gundam)

I had to stop and go thru this list and pull some people aside here, Spidey. :P
Tank Police (the original) <3
Venus Wars <3
Vampire Hunter D <3
Ghost in the Shell (and the movies) x_x
Ninja Scroll (movie) >_<

Just saw Steamboy and Paprika last weekend. Paprika was enjoyable and memorable but Steamboy was a big bag of Meh for me. I found the English voice-overs very annoying (even Patrick Stewart couldn't save this one ). I enjoyed it more with the original Japanese audio + subtitles, but still found it forgettable.
Other favourites in no particular order:
Akira
Spirited Away (Love this!)
Ponyo
Porco Rosso
Howl's Moving Castle
My Neighbour Totoro
Kiki's Delivery Service
Cowboy Bebop
Ghost in the Shell
And when I was young:
Robotech 1-3
Star Blazers
Kimba
Battle of the Planets
Astroboy
...Fun times.

I am a fan - no denying it.Sirius wrote:A lot of that could be summed up as "anything by Hayao Miyazaki".
I still need to get around to seeing his work, actually.
I recommend all the above. Do yourself a favour and check them out.
NB: If you start with Spirited Away, they you're setting the bar very high...

I agree. We have watched that one many times and it never gets old. Always enjoyable.Gekko71 wrote: NB: If you start with Spirited Away, they you're setting the bar very high...

Actually there are two One Piece dubs:
Originally it was dubbed by 4Kids, and heavily censored/outright rewritten in many places, plus the dubbing work was plain awful. Obviously this made a lot of people very angry and is widely considered to have been bad idea.
However a few years ago 4Kids lost the license finally and it got picked up by Funimation that has redone most of the series and is still ongoing, their dub quality is quite good so most fans like it. Funimation is even so kind as to offer almost everything they have done streaming for free on their site, episodes are available in both dubbed and subbed, they also stream the latest episode subbed one hour after it airs in Japan (Saturday night in the US). So actually the current company that has the One Piece license is pretty awesome and everyone interested should check it out.
