Photo scanning problem

Post by thewolfe »

Photo scanning problem

I have a Scanjet 3400 running on Win XP and WinMe and want to scan some family pics to upload to the internet.

When I scan a pic the scanner scans the scanner bed plus the pic so the file is huge.

Is there a way to just scan the pic or do I have to crop. If crop is the answer then what program can I use to crop.

If it's "Paint", one pic is to large to fit in the "Paint" window and won't allow me to drag the "crop" cursor past what I can view.

Got to be an easier way to do this.

does your scanner software have a "Scan Preview" option, usualy a preview option scans at a low res mode, and allows you to select the area you wish to scan. my LexMark X83 has a scan preview and i can tell it what to scan and what to ignore.

I was able to select the area that I wanted to scan using the mouse after it's done its "preview" bit.

Thanks for the info

There should be - along with that marquee ability, a bunch of controls to allow you to set the DPI, type of photo, Moire reduction and other stuff as well.

Always pays to RTFM.

Note: 72 or 96 DPI is "actual size" depending on the pixel density of your monitor. 300 or 600 DPI is print quality.
