I think that photo was featured in a recent National Geographic
Fear is the engine that destroys freedom.

No, that isn't mother nature, that's Storm from X-Men.

Mother Nature is a force to be reckoned with. Nothing we have made can have the destructive power she holds.

Whaaa??? You're comparing that little fire-cracker to the entire weather system, which runs off the sun and gravity. That's several googolplexes times more powerful than any bomb we have.

When Krakatoa blew, it affected our weather for years:

\"The island exploded in 1883, killing approximately 40,000 people, although some estimates put the death toll much higher. The explosion is still considered to be the loudest sound ever heard in modern history, with reports of it being heard nearly 3,000 miles from its point of origin. The shock wave from the explosion was recorded on barographs around the globe.

Average global temperatures fell by as much as 1.2 degrees Celsius in the year following the eruption. Weather patterns continued to be chaotic for years and temperatures did not return to normal until 1888.\"

True. But you're talkin' full blown hurricane, not the smaller mesoyclone in woodchip's picture, although it does have a really nicely formed wall cloud. I'd rather go through a hurricane than a nuclear explosion however.

Woodchip, you reminded me of a news story I saw recently. Krakatoa is active and being reborn as Anak Krakatau.

TC, hopefully the activity exhibited releases enough pressure to prevent the explosion it created a 120 years ago.
