Network \"2\"?
Network \"2\"?
Adding a new computer to my network and notice that my network is called Network 2. Is there a network 1? Can I rename Network 2 to Network 1?
You didn't say what your operating system is, but I'd bet it's Windows.
Windows will automatically name your network connections, and if (during the life of the machine or during your use of the machine) the \"network 1\" connection is removed (by updating network drivers, changing network configs, auto device detection, etc.) it does not rename other or newer connections. Thus it's common to see something like \"Network 2\" even though \"Network 1\" doesn't seem to be present. It used to be there, but isn't anymore.
Yes, you can rename them. If you're on XP, just Right-click the network connection and select Rename. Vista or Win7 may have you go through different steps to rename it.
