This is really PISSING ME OFF! Have any of you had to open ports on your router to get one of these newer DRM locked PC games to work? How safe is it to do this? No solutions other than THIS one have been given to me by support bozos that will solve the cannot connect to server problem. I only want to play single player too, so I don't need to be connected to someone's damn server! I'm almost tempted to get the cracks for these damn games because I sure can't get my money back!
This new evil you have to be connected to the internet all the time to play the effing game DRM scheme has just about gotten me to the point of NEVER buying a PC game ever again, and I just got a new system to play with! I've run into this with Bioshock 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction. I haven't played either yet!
Also, has anybody here used the Virtual PC program from Microsoft that emulates XP on a Win 7 system and how well does it work?

No. I haven't had any problems with Steam, although I've read on the forums that even the Steam versions are having problems because the games don't connect with the Steam server for verification, that happens on another server, like the game developer's, Ubisoft for example. These games I have are standalone disks that I paid for.

That's what I thought. My Windows firewall supposedly is allowing the program through. At least it's checked as such in the 'communicate through the firewall' window. Is there something more I need to do or just accept that Ubisoft can't keep their activation server online and I'm screwed out of my money? Judging from about 40% of the responses on Ubisoft's forum, I'm not the only one having difficulties with this exact same problem.

Might be a silly question but what Antivirus are you using?tunnelcat wrote:That's what I thought. My Windows firewall supposedly is allowing the program through. As far as I know Assassin's Creed 2 has the same setup for DRM and also keeps saved games on the cloud and so far I have had no problems with the game where other have had all kinds of problems even the one you're having.
There is a way to manually activate Bioshock 2 I have no idea about the other.
