Not only that, but I think she really overdid her attempt to put her own flourish on it. I honestly hate when people try to put their own twist on it. Just SING THE ★■◆●ing SONG in a passionate way. Perform the lyrics and music, as they are written, and do it in a skillful, tasteful manner. Stop trying to re-write the song and put your own touches on it.

Well I don't know the words to the US anthem and I didn't watch the superbowl, so I can't give any opinion on that in particular, but I know I'd be angry if someone really messed up O Canada in public where it's supposed to be professional.
If it's a minor mistake, or if they're singing it in the shower, that's another story

. But from what you say this doesn't sound like a minor mistake (or a shower singing... though maybe that's how it was practised

).

Yeah, I think the idea is that Christina Aguilera should have been better than that - after all, she was probably being paid a not-inconsiderable sum of money for the effort.

That said, I suppose I shouldn't put too much stock in most pop singers actually being good at their jobs. Maybe it's the people who hide their faults that are.
