Geebus, this is an amazing space game!

Or it will be when it is completed:

The detail and physics alone are impressive. The scales from galaxy down to the lumps on the ground on a planet are seamless.

A comment from Youtube:
@Androeus It's even more 'gameplay footage' than one might think... I don't know if you know that the starfield background isn't actually background; it's a quasi-realtime render of the actual in-game galaxy. Every nebula is really there, and every dot is a star you can travel to, with its own planetary system :-)

The graphics detail is impressive.

Have you looked at Shores of Hazeron yet? The graphics still need work, but the universe looks every bit as detailed/expansive.

I'm downloading the pre alpha combat prototype demonstrator at the moment.

http://www.infinity-universe.com/Infini ... &Itemid=51

It has a server and client component to it. Seems to be multiplayer.

Infinity is still in development. No downloads are available yet.

We have however released some standalone prototypes of various aspects of the game. You can find a list below.

Infinity Combat Prototype (ICP)

The Infinity Combat Prototype (latest version: 2.2.a) is a standalone game that has been released and improved upon the past months, as a way to test many components of Infinity before it is finished.

This is a completely separate program that only shares the engine. It does not represent what you will find in Infinity. Its goal is, namely, to test: the graphics engine, the physics engine, the networking engine, experiment with controls / combat mechanics / balance, to improve stability/fix bugs and measure/stress performance.

The combat prototype is not meant to have a deep gameplay; do not expect any form of planetary landing. 10 ships are available to the players. The gameplay is arena (team vs team) based, while Infinity will be a fully open \"sandbox\" type of game.

Lothar is right, if you're looking for something playable, check out Shores of Hazeron.

The graphics are still rough, but the gameplay is in place, and the in-game galaxy is already populated by players, empires, and alliances fighting over planets and resources.

In SoH, you can build a city, build a space station, design a ship in a studio, get a crew and fly the ship you just designed to a nearby star system, find a planet or ringworld there, land on it (all seamless transitions) and explore or conquer it.

Note: These aren't features in some future development, these are elements of gameplay available RIGHT NOW.

The graphics are still rough, yes. But unlike the Infinity project, the game mechanics have been working for quite a while (e.g. it's PLAYABLE!)

...Walk the shore on a planet, get in a ship, pick a star in the sky and fly to it (yep, you'll get there), find a planet or ringworld, get out and walk the shore (all seamless)...

...Layout the blueprints for a new ship design, optimize it for combat/exploration/trade/whatever, build a bunch of them, staff them with crews and officers, walk to the bridge of the lead ship, sit in the Captain's chair, and head out...

...Build a city, establish a mining colony on a nearby moon or planet, research technology...

You can do all of that right now. And it's free.

Personally, I think "mechanics/functionality before aesthetics" is just proper development.

i might give that one a try despite the graphics.

infinity universe though, just crashes with GL errors. dunno whats up. made an account, found the active server, but just won't load the engine all the way.
