RAID1 in XP..

Post by TOR_LordRaven »

Trying to setup a Raid array (RAID1 - Mirror) in WinXP 64bit edition.

From what im reading, some people say you cannot do this in any version of XP.
But I was able to do it on my brothers machine (hes running on a Gigabyte MoBo with AMD chipset, im runing Asus with nVidia chipset).

I currently have a 250gb drive in my system, and my intent is to create a new 1TB Raid1 (using two drives).
The RAID will be for storage while I keep the OS on the single 250gb drive.

anyone have any ideas?

assuming there is hardware support, and the raid is set up - all you need to have the right set of drivers on a floppy(or special version of the xp cd) and you are pretty much golden

vista and later let you use a usb drive, which is a bit easier. using a seperate drive for the OS is even easier, you just need to install the drivers.

Thank you - thats what I thought. I know im not crazy - and yes, it was much easier to install it when we upgraded him to Vista. No need for a floppy drive.

Just to elaborate on what Fliptw said, just find the txtsetup.oem file, and put all the files in that directory on the root directory of the floppy disc.

You only need the floppy disk if you want to install XP on the raid. Otherwise if you are installing XP on a separate drive off the northbridge controller it is completely unnecessary.

Both are helpful.

My system, i am adding a RAID array to an existing machine. So it will have a Single 250gb Drive with the OS, and a Second 2x1TB Raid1 for storage.

The system I am building for my nephew will be a Single 2x1TB Raid1. OS installed on the RAID.

Piece of cake.
Used USB Floppy Drive. Nephews Motherboard (Asus) has the Raid Boot Drivers. Running XP x64 with Raid1.
