Annoying startup program...

Post by Capm »

I got an APC Back-UPS XS 1500 for my birthday last month, which works very well except for one thing... the software. There is a startup program (display.exe in particular) that is supposed to load at startup. Well, It loads TWICE. I can't get it to load just once, no matter what I try. In the msconfig screen, it shows up under common startup and startup, (as does zonealarm, but I don't see it running twice in the task manager) If I uncheck one, the other comes up unchecked on reboot and it won't load at all (same with zonealarm) I tried manually adding it to the startup in customize start menu screen, but adding it there just adds it twice again in the msconfig.

I'm sure the solution is just staring me in my face, but I'm just not seeing it....

I'm running XP Pro, btw

I won't pretend to know how to do this, but every service that starts has a registry entry in Window's startup section of the registry. Perhapse you could manualy configure them there?

You do not require a UPS program installed if you have XP Pro...

Once removed, then goto into your control panel and click Power Options anything you see with battery is for your UPS. you can do an advanced config where only when the alarm goes off does it run specific software (located in common and user startups)

I have an APC Backup CS 500 through USB, all you do is plug it in and reboot windows once. You do not need the sofware unless you are running an older version of windows.

Just uninstall the software and reboot, use windows power to control it.
