The world ending so abruptly would be too convenient.

I read this today and laughed. I had a woman when I was working in Printing that said the end of the world was the year 2000. I saw her not long afterwards and wanted to ask her why she was still here. These people are retarded to think this and to leave behind your kids and grandkids etc is nuts.

Some of our old neighbors were convinced civilization was going to come crashing down because of the Y2K bug, they bought a farm, cattle, generators, and manually operated well-pumps.

Unfortunately for them; the collective electric utilities were also well prepared (not that the power would have ever gone out because of the bug anyway, at worst some of the computer generated electric bills might have come out with impossible/ridiculous or just wrong numbers).

I think it would be better if the world did end. This way, I wouldn't have to hear any more false logic.

Which is false logic at it's finest.

Wackiness aside, I don't think it's possible for earth to ever be lifeless again. In other words, even if Earth were broken into asteroids those frozen bits of bacteria would survive in some form. Time equals infinity, so those bits of protected bacteria have a chance to land on many kinds of surfaces.

It's funny, but most of Earth's water didn't come from Earth... I wonder if it brought any hitch hikers...

You know, I recall some family members who were convinced the rapture would happen in the early 1980's (kinda scary, as a little kid, being told the rapture is imminent)...

... and some members of my church who were convinced it would happen in the '90s...

... and some travelling folk who were trying to convince me it would happen in 2000...

It's actually rather amusing to look at their Biblical "proof". They always claim accurate-to-the-day predictions, but if you look at their sources, it comes from very strange scripture interpretations plus some wacky assumptions they use when trying to add up times from ancient genealologies.

Not bad logic Burly, bad theology. Jesus himself warns against this kinda thing.

And no, TB it isn't.

Have you ever considered that stories like "chicken little" might have been written for this purpose?

It's funny how people have this expectation of normalcy. If something has never happened before, most people act like it will never happen. Even with all the fancy talk about asteroids.

We'll see how funny it is in the "not-too-distant future" when you lose everything you've worked your whole life for and you can no longer afford to watch baseball games, eat apple pies and drive Chevy trucks.

That's the point of why it's stupid to believe anyone that tells you that they know when the world is going to end. The Bible is pretty explicit about telling you that you won't know, so you're supposed to live each day like it's your last. (I.E. don't put off the good things that you could/should do because "I can just do it tomorrow")

I have a theory, though, about how to know when it will happen- all I have to do it compile all of everyone else's predictions, and whichever day is omitted will be the day that it actually happens. :P

On a scientific note: I think the physical end of the world will happen when, at some point, the sun will expand to engulf the earth as part of its star death scene. - when it evolves into a red giant - linky

You say that like it's a bad thing. ^_~

Maybe if you humans would research world events instead of just seance & evilution, you'd actually realize it's happening now. If you want to play the Bible card or the anti-Bible card, it also says that we will see the signs and know when the end is about to occur [just not exactly when].

You won't see it unless you understand how to pay attention. Either that, or you can try "the old head between the legs trick."

Oh, that reminds me... I have a robotic maid in the kitchen... I forgot she's waiting for me.
