You know, I used to like Barack Obama

Post by null0010 »

But then he does stuff like this:

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0311/50761.html
article wrote:The Obama administration, which famously pledged to be the most transparent in American history, is pursuing an unexpectedly aggressive legal offensive against federal workers who leak secret information to expose wrongdoing, highlight national security threats or pursue a personal agenda.

In just over two years since President Barack Obama took office, prosecutors have filed criminal charges in five separate cases involving unauthorized distribution of classified national security information to the media. And the government is now mulling what would be the most high-profile case of them all - prosecuting WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

That’s a sharp break from recent history, when the U.S. government brought such cases on three occasions in roughly 40 years.
...and it really just makes me sad.

Null, you're not the only one:

"The White House is ramping up an effort to promote a nationwide competition to decide which high school wins a commencement speech by President Obama.

An internal White House memo indicates that the White House is facing a shortage of applications less than a week before the deadline. "

it's easy to talk openess until you're the one in charge. maybe Obama has started to feel the weight of command.

Must be it because he's gone against almost every promise he made during his campaign, including this one:

Wait, is TC unhappy about Obama?

I can't say that I ever liked Obama, but I never really hated him either (I think). What I did hate was all of the hype about him... in my opinion no one deserves that much hype, especially before they've done anything to back it up. I can't say that I blame him for not being able to back it up, but in my opinion his priorities were in the wrong place; he burned himself out on the stupid health care bill, instead of going to better targets.

I agree with CUDA- the weight of command is heavy. It's easy to say you'll fix things, the challenge is actually finding a solution that does the fixing.

Relating this to the net neutrality thread: The biggest problem is that so many senators are deep in the corporations pockets, to the point that nothing gets done if it doesn't cater to the monsters. Hence, no matter how good the intentions start, they have to get polluted for anything to actually happen.

Keep an eye out for more "legal action" like this and you just might notice there will be more legislation and court rulings that should also make you feel more sad.

The time is coming when Obama is going to need to try and be elected again. There is no freakin way on the planet he's going to be able to do that and so relitively recently, he's been pretending to slide right. I see through that too.

I wouldn't call Obama a communist. He's not, and the accusations about him being fundamentally socialist don't fit, either.

However, I also wouldn't call Obama a conservative, or make a strong comparison to Reagan. Null, I only see resemblance in terms of raw spending and corporatism; what makes you say "second coming of Reagan"?

Yea, I can’t see the comparison…Reagan had his moments where he made me very proud to be an American…Obama, has had no such moments.

One small one maybe, when he ordered the attack on the pirates, a while back…

"Cappies" always hate on "commies."

little do these humans know, the progression of everything in the United States has been following the communist manifesto as a guideline for a long time, and most of the goals therein (if not all) have been achieved.

Perhaps you are forgetting this about Reagan. Remember the Polish Solidarity Movement of 1980 that happened during his watch? He was also a member of the AFL-CIO affiliated Screen Actors Guild, of which six terms were served as president of the union.

Said during Reagan's radio address:
Ever since martial law was brutally imposed last December, Polish authorities have been assuring the world that they’re interested in a genuine reconciliation with the Polish people. But the Polish regime’s action yesterday reveals the hollowness of its promises. By outlawing Solidarity, a free trade organization to which an overwhelming majority of Polish workers and farmers belong, they have made it clear that they never had any intention of restoring one of the most elemental human rights—the right to belong to a free trade union.

Funny. I'm not seeing anyone outlawing Unions. they are still legal in the U.S.

not to mention I have not seen anyone "brutally" put down any union protesters. so I fail to see how your analogy is appropriate

No; Obama is the second coming of W. He's pro-corporate and pro-big government. These things do not go together very well.

what Obama is would be a 'pragmatist'. He believes in doing what needs to be done for the common good of the nation with little regard for ideology. That was who he was, who he is, and who he will continue to be.
What is astounding is that so few people seem to have noticed that from the outset. I'm forever amused by liberals 'appalled' at his not pursuing liberal ideals, matched by conservatives who paint him as 'communist' when he clearly is not.

and those two examples accomplished what, exactly? Seriously, the USSR was on the way out due to foolish spending and other decisions. And, declaring war on unions, which was started under Reagan, goes VERY far in explaining how the average worker in the US has seen both pay and benefits shrink for 30 years. How inspirational!

it has to do with leadership and being a leader. something this President has been lacking. Reagan had those qualities. Obama does not.
