Candidly and realistically...
Whenever I have brought up the fact that there is a patriarchal supremacist xenophobic misogynistic religion that really IS killing people in our world because of hatred (hatred for the unbeliever, HATRED of the Jews and hatred for anything representing freedom of a woman to be treated with equal respect as a HUMAN BEING) I keep hearing-
Christianity this, Christianity that.
I don't effing CARE about what Christianity has done to oppress the masses or slaughter people in crusades that happened CENTURIES ago. I'm an effing atheist that sees a REAL threat to our way of life and our freedoms through violence and intimidation BY adherents of ISLAM TODAY.
That threat is ISLAM (the patriarchal supremacist xenophobic misogynistic religion many of you accuse Christianity of being.)
My question is why is ISLAM (the patriarchal supremacist xenophobic misogynistic religion) coddled by so-called liberal free thinkers?
Where are the feminists? Where are the secular humanists? Why aren't they calling out against the oppression of islam?

Sorry about the rant but I'm just getting sick of the BS and hypocrisy I'm hearing from people that should know better.

TB, the reason you get replies that make broad generalized comparisons to Christianity is that your posts tend to make broad generalized statements about Islam. Yeah, statements which paint the two as equivalent religions are ridiculous. As are some of your posts which paint Islam / violence as roughly equivalent.
IMO, when you post a tunnel-vision argument ("it's not the culture, it's inherent in all of Islam"), you often get the opposite tunnel-vision response ("no, it's exactly like Christianity"). Both arguments are fundamentally weak.

The weakness of the response may be intentional.Foil wrote:when you post a tunnel-vision argument ("it's not the culture, it's inherent in all of Islam"), you often get the opposite tunnel-vision response ("no, it's exactly like Christianity"). Both arguments are fundamentally weak.

I guess I can't tell these cows that the rancher has less than benign intentions for their fate as they enter the slaughterhouse chute.TB, the reason you get replies that make broad generalized comparisons to Christianity is that your posts tend to make broad generalized statements about Islam. you have no idea how many times I've said the same thing to Tea Party supporters. The Koch brothers ain't the ranchers some folks think they are.

there is a level of equivalence between ALL religions. For my part, I've been working real hard NOT to imply that Christians are evil like Muslims, but that MOST Muslims, like MOST Christians are decent, loving and peaceful people. And, like Christians, Muslims come in a huge range of variations. I cite Christian examples merely because I grew up in a Christian culture, and thus will suggest that one think about the variability between, say, Southern Baptists, Catholics, United Methodists and Mennonites, just to choose four. Even more enlightening, think of the range simply within the Lutherans. Yet, every one would be considered a Christian. Likewise, one has to consider that Islam shows the same vast range. I don't know how many of you ever took Comparative Theology in college, but if you did not, find a reputable school and try and take it as a survey course. It will prove an eye-opener.

true that....the Buddists and Rastafarians have a ton of ground to make up. The Hindus do well on limited turf, but I'd estimate the Christians and Muslims are pretty comparative. Oh, and yes, I've read the utterly ludicrous claims of 150 million or more deaths due to Muslims. So full of 'estimates' and suppositions as to be completely laughable.....except for the fact that some are dim enough to believe them.

I'm waiting for a comparable number of Christians to start beheading people and strapping bombs to their bodies.

nah, they'd rather drown people or put them in steel coffins.woodchip wrote:I'm waiting for a comparable number of Christians to start beheading people and strapping bombs to their bodies.

It almost seems like all these posts turn into the same conversation.
Re: Candidly and realistically...
Yes, stereotypically they would but it would still be an inaccurate characterization. I'd even go so far to say that I find hardly any real biblical Christians around myself included. Though I recognize it for what it is.Yet, every one would be considered a Christian

At least to me, Christianity is a relationship between yourself and God. Offer the word to whoever wants to hear, but never push it.
Re: Candidly and realistically...
Well, it supposed to be a marriage of the 2 to become 1(in nature), but I keep getting in the way
