While in E & C I noticed a purple name in the "whose online" at the bottom of the index. Looking closer I see it is:
Google [Bot],
Strange visitor from another planet? Never saw that before.
"Googlebot is Google's web crawling bot (sometimes also called a "spider"). Crawling is the process by which Googlebot discovers new and updated pages to be added to the Google index."
So are we blessed?

Re: Google Bot
Heh, not really. The Google and Yahoo bots are here pretty often (at least daily) just indexing the public-level posts.
Do a quick search on Google, it works pretty well for finding DBB posts.

Re: Google Bot
Yes it does a good job and is much better than the one here does. The one here doesn't even find anything.

Re: Google Bot
The one here is turned off because the MS-SQL 2000 database engine can't handle search (I'm still pestering RC to fix it).

LotharBot is the one that you need to watch out for. It's trouble with a capital T.

Can't use a newer DB engine? I think I have a spare 2008 SQL server license, if that helps.Krom wrote:The one here is turned off because the MS-SQL 2000 database engine can't handle search (I'm still pestering RC to fix it).

Re: Google Bot
Ask RC, he needs some extra features that aren't in the standard (free) versions. A few weeks ago we tried to switch it to the latest build of MySQL, but we ran into a snag and had to abort. I'm not sure when we will be able to try again.
