microscopic blood in urine, kind of worried

Post by tomoyoafter »

well last year my doctor found some microscopic blood in my urine (invisible to the naked eye) during a health check with blood sample and urine, anyways it seems to always come and go but for the past few month its completely disappeared but i still have to follow up every 6 months but the doc saids he didn't find any protein so i shouldn't worry about kidney damage at my age (29) well after an x-ray and ultrasound all shows my kidneys to be fine so i guess i'm happy enough if i can play descent for 20 more years.

given your age, you likely had a very small stone in a kidney. No biggie. Enjoy life! :D

Well been living with that problem for a while now and the doc has no idea where it's coming from. Been to several specialist several MRI's and cystoscopies everything checked out A-Ok. Man was I scared though.

Didn't like this thing one bit.

holy molly! my urologist said something about sticking this up my wii wii but it entails the risk of bladder cancer for different ppl. i didn't do it.

wow i'd never thought i'd run into someone with this same micro-hematuria thing , how many years have you had them?

what is the shape of the RBCs found in your urine? my urologist said mine is normochromic which means its not from the kidney filters so nothing to worry. did your urinalysis report say anything about RBCs?

here's mine:
*majority of RBC appears normochromic and normocytic, no blast cells seen*

i was told that this is a good sign it means my filters are not damaged, and VERY often no causes for micro hematuria are ever found.

thanks for replying guys!

You may want to ask your doctor if maybe the lab is picking up myoglobin instead of hemoglobin in your urine. Heavy exercise will break down a little muscle tissue which will show up in the form of myoglobin in the urine, which is similar to blood in most lab tests. It has to be looked at microscopically to differentiate. The doctor mixed that up in one of my spouse's lab tests one time.

But that image totally needs to be in an 11x14 picture frame and hung up in my apartment.

Yeah, and through my extensive research by watching movies, I believe boxers can "be pissin' blood fo weeks, yo," after getting hit hard in the pelvic region. However, those movies are not a medical degree.

They piss blood because they get smacked hard in the kidneys and internal blood vessels begin leaking into the urine. As for myoglobinuria, when a person over exercises their muscles, those muscles begin to break down and release myoglobin, which the kidneys then filter out of the blood into the urine. A little myoglobin, no prob. A lot of myoglobin means muscles are damaged and kidney failure and DEATH can result. Red colored urine, blood. Dark colored urine, myoglobin.

thank you so much for the reply, well still better safe than sorry.

sadly for me most of the blood was from hemoglobin.

my creatinine levels are at 0.77mg, but i was told not to worry. :|

i've done another urinalysises for the past few months, and it seems they're gone now but the doc wants me to come back as often as i can (every 3-4 months over a course of 1 year period) he says that he needs to know if they're recurrent or not.

well after much research i found this:

some info on RBC shape's relation to kidneys.
"Red blood cells in the urine may be from kidney loss (termed "glomerular" blood cells) in patients with renal disease. Red cells in the urine of these individuals will usually be misshapen and accompanied by protein in the urine.

Normal appearing red blood cells (termed "epithelial" red blood cells to identify them as cells coming from the urinary epithelium instead of the contorted "glomerular" red blood cells) may be present during a urinary tract infection, urinary stone, or urinary malignancy. Red blood cells are common in the urine after urologic procedures and occasionally following catheter placement. Complete urine testing (called "urinalysis") for the presence of bacteria and white blood cells, urine culture, cystoscopy, intravenous pyelogram, and/or other imaging studies my be necessary to clarify the source of the blood.

The Significance of Abnormal Urine Color

so basically:

if > or = 80% RBC in urine is normal shape = not from Kidneys but else where in the Urinaray tract, kidneys not damaged

however if considerate amount of RBCs are "mishappen" = from kidneys because the kidneys and the filters are damaged
